Water quality monitoring by mass spectrometry in the Ostravice River during the Colours of Ostrava festival

Abstract:

Čím dál více se diskutuje o životním prostředí a jeho kontaminaci různými látkami. S rostoucí populací roste i množství výroby léčiv, ostatních organických látek a drog, které jsou detekovány ve vodách i v půdách. Tyto látky se řadí mezi environmentální polutanty. Teoretická část se zabývá základní charakteristikou nalezených látek, distribucí léčiv do životního prostředí, stanovení hodnot pH, stanovení veškerých rozpuštěných iontů (TDS) a stanovení hodnot konduktivity. Dále se teoretická část zabývá metodou UV/VIS spektrometrií a hmotnostní spektrometrií, která je velmi vhodnou metodikou pro stanovení přítomnosti léčiv ve vodách. Experimentální část se zabývá odběrem vzorků a provedení analýzy odebraných vzorků. Vzorky byly odebírány z řeky Ostravice během i po konání festivalu Colours of Ostrava v roce 2018 a následně byly proměřeny základní parametry (pH, TDS a vodivost) a dále také proměřeny pomocí metod UV-VIS spektrometrií a hmotnostní spektrometrií. Po provedení analýzy vzorků vod z řeky Ostravice během i po konaní festivalu Colours of Ostrava 2018 můžeme se domnívat, že s největší pravděpodobností byla řeka kontaminována látkou Codein. Dalšími možnými kontaminanty mohou být Piracetam a Benzofenon. Tyto látky byly detekovány v pozitivním modu. V negativním modu byly detekovány nejspíše látky Alloxan a fosfáty.

Abstract:

The quality of the environment and its contamination by various substances are increasingly being discussed. With a growing population, the production of pharmaceuticals, other organic substances and drugs is growing and that can be detected in the waters and in the soils. These substances are rank between the environmental pollutants. The theoretical part deals with the basic characteristics of the found substances, distribution of pharmaceuticals in the environment, determination of the pH values, determination of total dissolved solid (TDS) and determination of conductivity values. Furthermore, the theoretical part deals with the method of UV/VIS spectrometry and mass spectrometry, which is a very appropriate methodology for determining the presence of pharmaceuticals in the water. The experimental part deals with sampling and analysis of the taken samples. The samples were taken from the Ostravice River during and after the Festival Colours of Ostrava in the year 2018, and then were measured for basic parameters (pH, TDS and conductivity) and furthermore measured using the methods of UV-VIS spectrometry and mass spectrometry. After analyzing water samples from the Ostravice River during and after the festival Colours of Ostrava 2018 we can assume that the river was most likely contaminated by Codeine. Other possible contaminants may be Piracetam and Benzophenone. These substances were detected in the positive mode. In the negative mode were detected substances Alloxan and phosphates.
