Occurrence and correlates of quarterlife crisis in young adults

Abstract:

Bakalářská diplomová práce se zabývá výskytem čtvrtživotní krize u českých mladých dospělých. Věnuje se také jejím sociálním souvislostem - sociální opoře, copingovým strategiím, spokojenosti v zaměstnání a spokojenosti s finanční situací. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 540 respondentů ve věkovém rozmezí od 19 do 30 let. Respondenti byli studenti i pracující s různým vzděláním. Při sběru dat jsme použili Crisis screening questionnaire 9, Dotazník sociální opory (MOS), Dotazník životní spokojenosti – oblast Práce a zaměstnání a Finance a Coping Strategies Inventory ve zkrácené verzi. Výsledky ukazují, že téměř polovina respondentů prožívala čtvrtživotní krizi. Největší souvislost měly odklonové copingové strategie s výskytem čtvrtživotní krize, kde byl středně těsný kladný vztah. Středně těsná negativní korelace vyšla také u sociální opory, spokojenosti v zaměstnání a spokojenosti s finanční situací. Co se týče konkrétních příklonových copingových strategií, byla zjištěna středně těsná kladná korelace strategie vyjádření emocí a výskytu čtvrtživotní krize. Zjistili jsme, že podíl mladých lidí ve čtvrtživotní krizi je podobný jako ve Velké Británii, kde výzkumy čtvrtživotní krize začaly. Tyto výsledky podněcují k dalšímu zkoumání výskytu čtvrtživotní krize u českých mladých dospělých.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is focused on the occurrence of a quarter-life crisis in the Czech young adults. It deals with psychosocial correlates – social support, coping strategies, job satisfaction and satisfaction with financial situation. The sample included 540 respondents aged 19 to 30 years. Respondents were students and employed people with different education. To collect data we used Crisis Screening Questionnaire 9, Social Support Survey (MOS), Life Satisfaction Questionnaire – area Work and career and Financial situation a Coping Strategies Inventory in short form. Results show that almost half of respondents experienced the quarter-life crisis. The strongest correlation was disengagement coping with the occurrence of the quarter-life crisis, where was moderate positive correlation. Moderate negative correlation was reported for predictors of social support, job satisfaction and satisfaction with financial situation. Focused on particular engagement coping strategies was found out a moderate positive correlation in express emotions and occurrence of the quarter-life crisis. We found out that the proportion of young people in the quarter-life crisis is similar to the Great Britain, where quarter-life crisis researches began. These results provoke to research more the occurrence of the quarter-life crisis in the Czech young adults.
