Comparison of Immigration Policies and the Integration of North Korean Migrants: the Case of the Republic of Korea and the People's Republic of China

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá imigračními politikami a integrací severokorejských migrantů v rámci Korejské republiky a Čínské lidové republiky od roku 1953 po současnost. Jejím cílem je vyhodnocení politických vztahů Čínské lidové republiky a Korejské republiky s Korejskou lidově demokratickou republikou, jejich migračních politik a následně i integrace severokorejských migrantů na jejich území. Práce kromě uceleného náhledu do integračních a migračních strategií obou zemí vůči severokorejským migrantům nabízí závěrečnou komparativní analýzu v kombinaci se SWOT analýzou, a to ve všech třech oblastech. Výsledky zobrazují markantní rozdílnost ve všech třech rovinách analýzy, a to především v oblasti právního zastřešení severokorejské migrace, přístupu k imigraci a povahy vnímání vztahů s Korejskou lidově demokratickou republikou.

Abstract:

This bachelor’s thesis explores immigration policies and the integration of North Korean migrants in the Republic of Korea and the People's Republic of China from 1953 to the present. It aims to evaluate the political relations of the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Korea with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, their migration policies, and subsequently the integration of North Korean migrants into their territories. In addition to providing a comprehensive overview of the integration and migration strategies of both countries towards North Korean migrants, the thesis offers a comparative analysis combined with a SWOT analysis in all three areas. The results reveal significant differences in all three areas of analysis, particularly in the legal framework for North Korean migrants, the approach to immigration, and the nature of perceptions of relations with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
