The Impact of EU Anti-Discrimination Directive in the Czech Republic's insurance market

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá popisem reakce pojišťoven na zásah antidiskriminační směrnice tuzemského pojistného trhu. Během popisu je zohledněna logika pojišťoven při stanovení rozdílného pojistného pro ženy a muže v rámci vymezených produktů životního a neživotního pojištění. Pro lepší pochopení problematiky jsou porovnáni muži a ženy podle jejich stupně rizikovosti z pohledu pojistitelů. Při analýze změn na pojistném trhu je popsáno sjednocení sazeb pro muže a ženy do unisex sazeb, které nezohledňují pohlaví pojištěného při pojistně-matematických výpočtech. Také je popsána reakce klientů na tyto sjednocené sazby a pojistné. Dalším bodem je porovnání ceny před a po zavedení směrnice na Český pojistný trh a zjištění jak se zdražily nebo zlevnily ceny pro obě pohlaví. Dále je popsán zajímavý krok pojišťoven k napravení nevýhodného postavení žen po přijetí antidiskriminačních cen.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the description of the insurance companies' reaction, following the adoption of the anti-discrimination directive in Czech Republic and its impact in the domestic insurance market. In the description is followed the logic of the insurance companies, in calculating the different insurance premiums for women and men, for the products of life and non-life insurance. For a better understanding of the situation, I have proceeded by doing a comparison between men and women according to their degree of risk as seen from the perspective of insurers. In order to analyse changes in the insurance market, I have shown that unification of rates for men and women to unisex rates do not reflect the the risks related to the gender as it is measured in the actuarial calculations. An important point in the thesis is the comparison of prices before and after the introduction of the mentioned regulation in the Czech insurance market and how this impacted the the premium rates for both sexes.
