Pilgrimage of the Virgin Mary: Transformations of pilgrimage in Vranov near Brno

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na specifické formy mariánské zbožnosti ve farnosti ve Vranově u Brna. Poutní místo, jehož tradice sahá k roku 1240, je od roku 1633 spojeno s konventem paulánů, kteří se podíleli na jeho udržování do roku 1784, kdy byl Řád Nejmenších bratří sv. Františka z Pauly v rámci josefínských reforem zrušen. K jeho obnovení došlo v roce 1992 zásluhou kněze Giuseppe Fiorini Morosini. V následujících letech na ně navázal ve Vranově vznik Duchovního centra svatého Františka z Pauly. Roku 2020, v rámci 780. výročí mariánského zjevení, byla vytvořena místním řádovým bratrem Milanem dřevěná kopie existující sochy Panny Marie Vranovské, která po svém posvěcení začala putovat mezi kostely vranovské farnosti a následně se její putování rozšířilo do rodin, které tuto sochu přijímají do svých domácností, což pokračuje dodnes. Cílem této práce je zmapovat současnou místní poutnickou praxi a formy mariánské zbožnosti, na něž je vázána, především na základě analýzy modliteb, zpěvů a poutních příruček. Specifickým tématem výzkumu je význam putování sochy Panny Marie po domácnostech pro rodiny, které se do této praxe zapojují. Téma putování Panny Marie se stalo předmětem terénního výzkumu realizovaného formou rozhovorů, a to s místním řeholním bratrem a následně s rodinami, které přijímají sochu do svých domácností. Analýza rozhovorů byla následně zpracována na základě induktivní tematické analýzy. Směřuje ke zmapování života v domácnosti za přítomnosti sochy Panny Marie, průběh domácí rituální praxe a témata související s podnětem k účasti, která se vážou na specifická témata mariánské zbožnosti. V kontextu účasti na této tradici byl sledován i možný vliv přítomnosti sochy na prožívání specifických forem zbožnosti a proměn v domácnosti přijímající Pannu Marii u dotazovaných rodin.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on special form of Marian devotion in the parish of Vranov near Brno. The pilgrimage site, which tradition dates back to 1240, has been associated since 1633 with the Paulan convent until 1784, when the Order of Minims was abolished as part of the Josephine reforms. The order has been restored in 1992 by the priest Giuseppe Fiorini Morosini and in the following years the establishment of the Spiritual Centre of St. Francis of Paula followed in Vranov. In 2020 as a part of the 780th anniversary of the Marian apparitions, a wooden copy of the existing statue of the Virgin Mary of Vranov was created by local monk brother Milan and after its consecration the new statue of Mary started her wandering among churches of the parish of Vranov and subsequently spread to families who receive this statue in their homes, which continues to this day. The aim of this thesis is to map the current local pilgrimage practice and the forms of Marian devotion to which it is linked, mainly based on an analysis of prayers, hymns, and pilgrimage manuals. A specific theme of the research is the significance of having the statue of the Mary wandering to the home for families who engage in this practice. The theme of the pilgrimage of the Virgin Mary became the subject of field research carried out through interviews with a local monk and then with families who receive the statue in their homes. The analysis of the interviews was then processed based on inductive thematic analysis. It is directed towards mapping household life in the presence of the statue of Virgin Mary, the course of domestic ritual practice, and themes related to the incentive to participate, which relate to specific themes of Marian devotion. In the context of participation in this tradition, the possible influence of the presence of the statue on the experience of a specific forms of piety and transformation in the household receiving the Virgin Mary by the families interviewed was also examined.
