Extensive Green Roofs and Urban Water Management

Abstract:

Tato práce podrobně rozebírá téma extenzivních střešních zahrad a jejich významu pro management vody ve městě. Toto spojení vzešlo z předběžného seznámení se s tématikou zelených střech a jejich významu pro městský celek jako takový. Zelené střechy jsou jednou ze součástí komplexního systému městské zeleně a možným nástrojem k decentralizované správě vodního režimu urbanizované krajiny. Dva aspekty, které jsou od sebe zdánlivě vymezitelné, avšak při bližším prozkoumání v podstatě neoddělitelné. Proto si následující text klade za cíl vykreslit propojení vody a zelených střech ve všech jeho možných nuancích.První část přináší stěžejní teoretický vhled do problematiky, přičemž se snaží konfrontovat teoretické zásady a poznatky se situací v praxi. Základem pro tuto část je literární rešerše spolu s osobní prohlídkou vybraných realizací. Technologická část vychází z českých a německých oborových standardů, které jsou konfrontovány s odbornými publikacemi a vědeckými články. Obecné poznatky jsou srovnány s reálnými produkty stěžejních výrobců technologií pro založení vegetačního souvrství – Nophadrain, Optigreen a ZinCo. Rešerši uzavírá přehled vegetace, která je vhodná pro extenzivní zelené střechy.Práce v závěru potvrzuje nepopiratelný přínos zelených střech pro zelenou a modrou infrastrukturu města. Všechny aspekty teoretické části přetváří do návrhu venkovní učebny na střeše s extenzivní vegetací Základní školy Felberova ve Svitavách.

Abstract:

This thesis analyzes in detail the topic of extensive green roofs a their significance for urban water management. This connection emerged after previous primary research of green roofs and their role in urban areas in general. Green roofs are just one part of complex urban green infrastructure and a feasible tool for decentralised water regime in urban landscape. Two aspects, seemingly different however practically inseparble after closer insight. That is why the upcoming text aims to depict connection in between water and green roofs in all possible nuances.The first part brings crucial theoretical insight of the problematics, where it confronts theoretical principles and knowledge with practical situation. The basis fot this section is literature research along with personal visit of chosen projects. Technological chapter is based on Czech and German standard documents which are confronted with professional publications and academical papers. General information is compared to real products of leading green roof technology‘s producents – Nophadrain, Optigreen and ZinCo. Research is completed by overview of suitable extensive green roof vegetation.The thesis agrees on undeniable benefits of green roofs for urban green and blue infrastructure. All the aspects of theoretical part are transformed into a design project for an outdoor classrom which is situated on an extensive roof of the Felber’s primary school in Svitavy.
