Content analysis of corporate sustainability reports in banking

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práci je na základě obsahové analýzy identifikovat aspekty udržitelnosti ve strategii českých bank. Hlavní metodou práci je obsahová analýza podnikových zpráv o trvalé udržitelnosti s využitím programu MAXQDA. Pro analýzu byly vybrány tři bankovní institucí: MONETA Money Bank, a.s., Česká spořitelna, a.s. a Komerční banka, a.s. První část práce byla zaměřena na vymezení teoretických pojmů v oblasti trvalé udržitelnosti, včetně vymezení různých nástrojů a principů nefinančního reportingu. V praktické části bylo vytvořeno kódovací schémata na základě teoretických poznatků v programu MAXQDA, která obsahovala celkem 85 kódů. Dohromady bylo vytvořeno 732 odkódovaných výrazů. Z provedené analýzy následovalo, že nejvíce banky ve svých zprávách zdůrazňují ESG složky, hlavně sociální složku. Navíc bylo zjištěno, že hlavními stakeholdery bank jsou klienti a zaměstnanci.

Abstract:

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to identify aspects of sustainability in the strategy of Czech banks based on content analysis. The main method of the thesis is content analysis of corporate sustainability reports using MAXQDA. Three banking institutions MONETA Money Bank, a.s., Česká spořitelna, a.s. and Komerční banka, a.s. were selected for the analysis. The first part of the thesis focused on defining theoretical concepts in the field of sustainability, including the definition of various tools and principles of non-financial reporting. In the practical part, coding schemes were created based on the theoretical knowledge in MAXQDA, which contained a total of 85 codes. In total, 732 decoded expressions were created. From the analysis conducted, it followed that banks emphasize ESG components most in their reports, especially the social component. Moreover, it was found that the main stakeholders of banks are clients and employees.
