Classification of bachelor graduates at the Faculty of Informatics and Statistics

Abstract:

Vysokoškolské vzdělání má absolventům přinést kromě akademického titulu také teoretický a praktický základ pro jejich profesní kariéru, všestranný rozvoj osobnosti a v neposlední řadě možnost smysluplně prožít několik let svého života. Ne všichni absolventi se ovšem dokázali sžít s univerzitním prostředím nebo nejsou dokonale spokojeni se získaným vzděláním. Tato práce zkoumá důvody, které vedou čerstvé absolventy bakalářského studia Fakulty informatiky a statistiky Vysoké školy ekonomické v Praze k pocitu, že by si stejný obor již znovu nevybrali. Pochopení těchto souvislostí může být pro vedení fakulty velmi užitečné a může přispět k úpravám studia dle potřeb budoucích absolventů. Smyslem této snahy je zvýšení kvality studia v době rychle se měnícího trhu práce a zvýšení počtu spokojených absolventů šířících dobré jméno fakulty. K dosažení cílů práce – konkrétně vytvoření klasifikačního modelu a vytyčení nejvýznamnějších proměnných, jsou použity metody datového modelování (klasifikační stromy, náhodný les, boosting), a popisné statistiky (konfirmační faktorová analýza, míry závislosti a četnostní tabulky). Součástí je také evaluace oborů fakulty, návrhy využití výsledků a doporučení směřující k dalším rozborům.

Abstract:

In addition to the university degree, tertiary education should also provide graduates with a theoretical and practical basis for their professional career, complex personality development and, last but not least, the opportunity to spend several years of their lives meaningfully. However, not all graduates have been able to get used to the university environment, and some of them are not completely satisfied with the education they have received. This thesis examines the reasons that lead recent graduates of the bachelor's studies of the Faculty of Informatics and Statistics of the University of Economics, Prague to feel that they would not choose the same study field again. Understanding these contexts can be useful for the faculty management and contribute to the adjustment of studies according to the needs of future graduates. The purpose of this effort is to increase the quality of study at a time of rapidly changing labour market and to higher the number of satisfied graduates spreading the good name of the faculty. To achieve the goals, set as the creation of a classification model and the setting of the most important variables, methods of data modelling (classification trees, random forest, boosting) and descriptive statistics (confirmatory factor analysis, association rates and frequency tables) are used. Suggestions for the use of the results and recommendations for further analysis are also included in this paper as well as the evaluation of study programmes.
