Attachment in adulthood and quality of the partnership

Abstract:

The main purpose of this thesis is to identify and describe the relationship between the type of attachment and the quality of the partner relationship. The theoretical part includes basic information about attachment theory, its manifestations in adulthood and its influence on partner relationships. In the context of close relationships, we will be particularly interested in the aspect of their quality, which will be investigated in the practical part by means of a dyadic adjustment questionnaire. A questionnaire of experiencing close relationships will be used to find out the type of attachment. After evaluating the results of the data from 188 adult respondents, it was found that avoidant attachment can be described as a predictor of partner relationship quality. In contrast, the effect of anxious attachment on partner relationship quality was not found to be significant. The results also suggest that women show higher levels of anxious attachment and men are more avoidant, which is consistent with previous findings. Given the existence of these relationships, it can be concluded that examining relationships in the context of attachment theory certainly makes sense. Our results have contributed to its extension, which is certainly a contribution of this work. Another positive is the unusual outcome of the hypotheses - the demonstrated influence of only one of the uncertain ties. This is a contribution because it may stimulate a more detailed investigation of the differences between the two links.

Abstract:

Hlavným zámerom práce je zistiť a popísať súvis medzi typom väzby (attachmentu) a kvalitou partnerského vzťahu. Teoretická časť zahŕňa základné informácie o teórii attachmentu, jeho prejavoch v dospelosti a vplyve na partnerské vzťahy. V kontexte blízkych vzťahov nás bude zaujímať najmä aspekt ich kvality, ktorá bude v praktickej časti skúmaná prostredníctvom dotazníka partnerskej zhody. Na zistenie typu väzby bude použitý dotazník prežívania blízkych vzťahov. Po vyhodnotení výsledkov dát od 188 dospelých respondentov bolo zistené, že vyhýbavú väzbu môžeme označiť ako prediktor kvality partnerského vzťahu. Naopak vplyv úzkostnosti na kvalitu partnerského vzťahu sa nepreukázal ako významný. Výsledky taktiež naznačujú, že ženy vykazujú vyššiu mieru úzkostnosti a muži sú vyhýbavejší, čo korešponduje s doterajšími poznatkami. Vzhľadom na existenciu týchto vzťahov možno konštatovať, že skúmanie partnerských vzťahov v kontexte teórie pripútania má zmysel. Na jej rozšírení sa podieľali aj naše výsledky, čo je určite prínosom tejto práce. Ďalším pozitívom je aj netradičný výsledok hypotéz - preukázaný vplyv len jednej z neistých väzieb. Prínosom preto, lebo môže byť podnetom pre detailnejšie preskúmanie rozdielov medzi týmito dvomi väzbami.
