Aquatic beetles and water bugs in alluvial pools of the Vltava river in the Bohemian Forest

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce bylo popsání druhové skladby společenstev vodních brouků a ploštic aluviálních tůní horního toku Vltavy ve Vltavském luhu v národním parku Šumava. Teoretická část se zabývá charakteristikou zkoumaných skupin vodního hmyzu a okolnostmi výskytu těchto skupin v menších permanentních stojatých vodách. Zpracovány byly vzorky odebrané v 17 poříčních tůních v letech 2018 a 2019. Během jarních a letních odběrů byly sledovány biotické a abiotické proměnné prostředí a byly naměřeny fyzikálně-chemické vlastnosti vody. Hlavním úkolem praktické části byla determinace vodních brouků a ploštic z odebraných vzorků a popis druhového složení těchto společenstev. Celkem bylo determinováno 56 druhů vodních brouků (Coleoptera) a 30 druhů vodních ploštic (Heteroptera). Vyšších abundancí dosahovaly vodní ploštice, kterých bylo nalezeno 7 084 jedinců, vodních brouků 3 642 jedinců. U vodních brouků byl zaznamenán výrazný nárůst abundancí mezi jarním a letním obdobím. Nejpočetnější čeledi vodních brouků byly potápníkovití (Dytiscidae), vodomilovití (Hydrophilidae) a vlhkomilovití (Noteridae). Mezi dominantní čeledi vodních ploštic patřily klešťankovití (Corixidae), znakoplavkovití (Notonectidae) a bruslařkovití (Gerridae). V uvedených počtech druhů jsou zahrnuty také 2 druhy vodních brouků a 8 druhů vodních ploštic z aktuálního Červeného seznamu ohrožených druhů (Hejda et al. 2017): splašník Hydrochus ingnicollis, plavčík Haliplus fulvus, klešťanky Corixa dentipes, Cymatia bonsdorffii a Sigara semistriata, bruslařka Limnoporus rufoscutellatus, vodoměrka Hydrometra gracilenta a znakoplavky Notonecta lutea a Notonecta obliqua. Ve společenstvech sice převažovaly druhy euryekní, byly zde ale nalezeny také početné populace acidofilních a detritofilních druhů vodních brouků nebo specialistů v rámci společenstev vodních ploštic typicky osidlující především zachovalejší oligotrofní biotopy vyšších poloh, např. klešťanka Sigara fossarum nebo potápníčci Hydroporus umbrosus a Hydroporus erythrocephalus. Během sezóny se zvyšoval podíl specialistů ve společenstvech obou zkoumaných taxonů, u vodních ploštic pak dosahoval více než 40 % z celkového počtu jedinců. Pomocí Spearmanova korelačního koeficientu byly zjištěny statisticky významné vlivy některých sledovaných proměnných prostředí (šířka tůně, vzdálenost tůně od hlavního toku, procentuální zastoupení mechů v břehové vegetaci a množství rozpuštěného organického uhlíku). Práce přináší první informace o společenstvech vodních brouků a ploštic v reliktních biotopech aluviálních tůní Vltavského luhu, které si zaslouží pozornost nejen z hlediska faunistických průzkumů, ale také z hlediska ochrany tohoto jedinečného území.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor's thesis was to describe species composition of water beetles and water bugs communities in alluvial ponds of the upper Vltava in the Vltava meadow in the Šumava National Park. The theoretical part deals with the characteristics of the studied groups of aquatic insects and the circumstances of their occurrence in smaller permanent backwaters. Samples taken in 17 river pools in 2018 and 2019 were processed. During spring and summer sampling, biotic and abiotic variable environments were monitored and chemicophysical properties of water were measured. The main task of the practical part was to determinate water beetles and true bugs from the samples and describe the species composition of these communities. A total of 56 species of water beetles and 30 species of water bugs were determined. Higher abundances were achieved by water bugs, of which 7,084 subjects were found, and water beetles by 3,642 subjects. Water beetles showed a significant increase in abundances between spring and summer. The most numerous families of water beetles were Dytiscidae, Hydrophilidae and Noteridae. The dominant families of water bugs contained Corixidae, Notonectidae, and Gerridae. The listed numbers of species also include 2 species of water beetles and 8 species of water bugs from the current Red List of Threatened Species (Hejda et al. 2017): Hydrochus ingnicollis, Haliplus fulvus, Corixa dentipes, Cymatia bonsdorffii and Sigara semistriata, Limnoporus rufoscutellatus, Hydrometra gracilenta, Notonecta lutea and Notonecta obliqua. Although eurytopic species predominated in the communities, numerous populations of acidophilic and detritophilic species of water beetles or water true bug specialists were found, typically inhabiting well-preserved oligotrophic habitats of higher altitudes, such as Sigara fossarum or Hydroporus umbrosus and Hydroporus tristis. During the season, the share of community specialists of both studied taxons increased, even more than 40 % of the total number of subjects in case of water true bugs. Using the Spearman’s correlation coefficient, statistically significant effects of some monitored variable environments (pond width, distance of the pond from the main stream, percentage of mosses in the riparian vegetation and the amount of dissolved organic carbon) were found. The study brings the first record about the water beetles and water bugs communities in the relict habitats of alluvial ponds of the Vltava meadow, which deserves attention not only in terms of faunistic explorations but also in terms of protection of this unique area.
