Biography, adventure fiction and travel literature as Ilija Trojanow's recipe for success. Demonstrated on the example of the novel Der Weltensammler and the collection Nomade auf vier Kontinenten.

Abstract:

A Bulgarian-born writer Ilija Trojanow who writes in German dedicated two of his works to Sir Richard F. Burton, a British officer and one of the key figures of 19th century British colonialism. One of these works is the novel Der Weltensammler (2006) and a collection Nomade auf vier Kontinenten (2007), which describes Trojanowow's journey tracing R. Burton. The aim of this work is to reveal the author's strategies, which led to great reception both among the readers and the critics. The greatest emphasis is put on the genre definition, the proportion of “das Fremde” (the foreign) and “das Eigene” (the familiar) as well as the relationship of literary fiction to literary non-fiction.

Německy píšící spisovatel s bulharskými kořeny Ilija Trojanow věnoval hned dvě ze svých děl britskému důstojníkovi Siru Richardu F. Burtonovi, který je jednou z klíčových postav britského kolonialismu 19. století. Jedná se o román s názvem Der Weltensammler (2006) a svazek Nomade auf vier Kontinenten (2007), který zachycuje Trojanowovu cestu po stopách R. Burtona. Cílem této diplomové práce je odhalit autorovy strategie, díky kterým si získala obě tato díla oblibu jak u čtenářů, tak u kritiků. Zkoumáno je především jejich žánrové zařazení, podíl „das Fremde“ a „das Eigene“ a literární fikce ve vztahu k literatuře faktu.
