International Relations of European Microstates in the Context of European Union

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je analyzovat mezinárodní vztahy vybraných evropských mikrostátů - Monaka, Andorry a Lichtenštejnska. Mikrostáty vybrané pro analýzu byly zvoleny pro rozdílnosti jejich spojenectví, neboť na nich lze názorně demonstrovat odlišnosti ve vývoji jejich mezinárodních vztahů. Jsou zkoumány převážně politické a ekonomické vazby těchto států na jejich tradiční spojence, což jsou zároveň jejich sousední státy, i na Evropskou unii. Práce má za cíl zjistit, zda prohlubování spolupráce s EU má vliv na jejich vztahy s tradičními spojenci. Dílčím tématem analýzy je také suverenita mikrostátů, protože do té může být u mikrostátů zasahováno jejich spojenci.

Abstract:

The goal of this master thesis is to analyse the international relations of the selected European microstates - Monaco, Andorra and Liechtenstein. These microstates were chosen for their distinctive alliance making options because the contrast between them allows to clearly demonstrate the differences in development of their international relations. The thesis mainly analyses political and economic ties with their traditional allies which are also their neighbouring states and the European Union. The aim of the thesis is to find out whether deepening of the cooperation with the EU influences the relationships of the microstates with their traditional allies. Another topic included in the analysis is the sovereignty of the microstates which their allies possibly interfere with.
