Abstract:
Lektiny disponují více vazebnými místy a také specificky vážou sacharidy. Díky vazbě na sacharid dokážou aglutinovat molekuly. Schopnost aglutinace využívají například viry. Lektiny, zejména pak rostlinné, dokážou působit v cizím organismu i toxicky, kdy inhibují proteiny v buňkách. Abstract:
Lectins specifically bind carbohydrates, thanks to this binding they can agglutinate molecules, but also whole cells. This mechanism is then used by toxins that are of lectin origin but is also used by viruses. They play an irreplaceable role in microorganisms, helping them to attach to the host cell, thus playing an indispensable role in initiating infection.
