Práce Proměny mateřství (Prožívání mateřství třemi generacemi) se zabývá mateřstvím s cílem zjistit, jak se mění prožívání mateřství žen tří generací a je-li ovlivněno proměnou konstruktu mateřství v západoevropské kultuře. Teoretická část mapuje proměnu konstruktu mateřství v jeho společenskovědní rovině. Je věnována různým pojetím mateřství, jeho historii a současnosti. Mateřství může být vnímáno buď jako přirozenost ženy či jako společenský konstrukt, jako identita ženy či jako její práce. Významné jsou gender stereotypy a s nimi spjatá rolová očekávání mužů a žen, otců a matek.V současnosti je mateřství nejvíce ovlivněno přetrvávajícím kultem mateřství a druhou vlnou feminismu. Výzkumná část se zabývá individuálním mateřstvím a je založena na rozhovorech s matkami tří generací (nejmladší generace: 25 - 39 let, prostřední generace: 40 - 54 let a nejstarší generace: 55 - 75 let) s cílem nalézt v jejich subjektivní realitě mezigenerační proměny a stálosti mateřství. Na základě kvalitativní analýzy, jejíž podklady byly získány provedením třinácti nestrukturovaných rozhovorů, byly nalezeny určité inter-generační a mezi-generační shody a z nich byly vyvozeny proměny a stálosti mateřství. V životech matek tří generací byla nalezena velká míra stálostí, která nesouvisela s proměnami společnosti. Ke stálostem často patří výrazné emoční prožívání určité etapy (narození dítěte, kojení), dále například prožívání rodičovské dovolené, odchod do práce, finanční problémy. Výrazná proměna se týká prožívání těhotenství, plánování dětí a možnosti mít partnera u porodu. Další etapy životní cesty mateřství (porod, přístup k novorozencům, výchova dětí) se proměnily pouze částečně. Změna konstruktu mateřství tedy ovlivňuje prožívání mateřství, avšak pouze v určitých oblastech. Mnoho proměn, které samy ženy reflektují, na změnu individuálního mateřství nemá vliv. V prožívání mateřství ženy vykazují více stálostí než proměn, což evokuje otázku, zda jsou tyto stálosti způsobeny přetrvávajícím působením kultu mateřství či přirozeností mateřství pro ženy.

ANNOTATION Čuhelová, M.: Changes in maternity approaches (Generation based differences in dealing with maternity) M. A. Thesis Psychology Masaryk University, School of Social Science, Brno 2006. The work Changes in maternity approaches (Generation based differences in dealing with maternity) examines maternity in an attempt at finding how dealing with maternity has changed among women of three generations and whether or not it is influenced by the change of the concept of maternity in the Western European culture. The theoretical part maps the change of the concept of maternity in terms of social science. It examines various concepts of maternity and its historical and current forms. Maternity may be perceived either as a womans nature or as a social concept, as a womans identity or work. Important factors include gender stereotypes and the related expectations in men and women, mothers and fathers. The strongest current influences on maternity are the prevailing maternity cult and the second wave of feminism. The research part of the work focuses on individual maternity and is based on interviews with mothers of three generations (the youngest generation aged 25 - 39, the middle generation aged 40 - 54 and the oldest generation aged 55 - 75) and attempts to find inter-generational changes and constants of maternity in their subjective realities. Qualitative analysis, the underlying data for which was obtained in thirteen non-structured interviews, discovered certain intra-generational and inter-generational commonalities, on the basis of which changes and constants in maternity were deduced. A great degree of commonalities was found in the lives of mothers of three generations, and this was unrelated to changes in the society. Commonalities often include strong emotional involvement with a certain stage (birth of the child, breast-feeding), experience of the maternity leave, going back to work, and financial problems. A marked change is related to dealing with pregnancy, planning childbirth and the possibility for the partner to attend to the childbirth. Other stages of the maternity (childbirth, attitude to the newborns, child raising) have only changed in part. Thus, the change in the concept of maternity influences dealing with maternity, but only in certain areas. Many changes that women reflect upon have no influence on the changes in individual maternity. In terms of dealing with maternity, women exhibit more constants than changes, which gives rise to the question whether the constants are caused by the ongoing effects of the maternity cult or by the fact that maternity is natural for women.
