Are There Significant Differences between an Altruistic Behavior of Men and Women? (The Analysis of a Behavior of Men and Women in a Dictator Game)

Abstract:

Práce se zaměřuje na mapování mezipohlavních rozdílů v altruistickém chování člověka za ekonomických podmínek. Jako prostředek k zamítnutí hypotézy H0 - altruistické jednání mužů a žen se statisticky významně neliší - byl zvolen dvojitě slepý ekonomický experiment využívající různě modifikovanou hru s diktátorem. Experiment se skládal ze šesti úloh. V žádné z šesti úloh nebyla hypotéza H0 na hladinách 1%, 5% ani 10% významnosti zamítnuta a tím potvrzeny signifikantní rozdíly v altruistickém chování mužů a žen. V jednotlivých úlohách se však objevily určité indikace genderových rozdílů. V úlohách č. 1, resp. 2 byly indikovány rozdíly v průměrném výsledku standardní hry s diktátorem s anonymním příjemcem, a to 10,5 %, resp. 34 % ve prospěch většího altruismu žen. V úlohách č. 3, resp. 4 byly indikovány rozdíly v průměrném výsledku hry s diktátorem modifikované na "dej-ber" hru, a to 17,1 %, resp. 6,36 % tentokrát ve prospěch většího altruismu mužů. V úlohách č. 5, resp. 6 byly indikovány nejvýraznější rozdíly v průměrném výsledku hry s diktátorem s charitativní organizací jako příjemcem, a to 40,5 %, resp. 41,4 % opět ve prospěch většího altruismu žen, což se zdá být nejzásadnějším objevem práce.

Abstract:

Thesis focuses on mapping of gender differences in an altruistic human behavior in economic conditions. As an instrument to reject the null hypothesis, that an altruistic behavior of men and women does not vary significantly, has been chosen a double-blind economic experiment using a variously modified dictator game. The experiment consists of six tasks. There has not been rejected the null hypothesis at significance levels of 0,01; 0,05 nor 0,1 in any task, so significant differences between an altruistic behavior of men and women have not been confirmed. However, there have appeared some indications of gender differences in every task. There have been indicated some differences between means of standard dictator game with ananymous recipient in tasks no. 1, or 2. They have been 10,5 %, or 34 % in favor of women's altruism. There have been indicated some differences between means of modified -- "give-take" -- dictator game in tasks no. 3, or 4. They have been 17,1 %, or 6,36 % in favor of men's altruism instead. There have been indicated the most significant differences between means of standard dictator game with a charitable organization as a receiver in tasks no. 5, or 6. They have been 40,5 %, or 41,4 % in favor of women's altruism again, which appears to be the most important finding of the paper.
