Analysis of the border conflict between Peru and Chile

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem diplomové práce je analyzovat hraniční konflikt Peru a Chile. Jakožto jeden z hraničních konfliktů Jižní Ameriky, díky své specifické povaze, tento konflikt, jehož kořeny sahají ke konci 19. století, a který byl postupně přesunut na úroveň právní, nabízí jedinečnou příležitost pro svou konceptualizaci. Výzkum je založený na teoretickém konceptu Uppsalské univerzity zaměřující se na historické pozadí, charakteristiku stran konfliktu, jejich neslučitelných zájmů, a mocenských kapacit, a průběh konfliktu se zaměřením na jeho dynamiku. Práce se zaměří rovněž na řešení konfliktu v podobě soudního řízení a pokusí se vyhodnotit jeho vliv na současné bilaterální vztahy Peru a Chile

Abstract:

The main aim of this thesis is to analyse border conflict of Peru and Chile. This border conflict being of the many in Latin America, thanks to its specific characteristics, with roots in the end of the 19th century, offers a unique opportunity for conceptualization. The research is based on the framework of the Uppsala University, focusing on the historical background, characteristics of the conflict actors, their incompatible goals and power capacities, and developments of the conflict, focusing on its dynamics. The thesis will focus on the conflict resolution as well and will attempt to evaluate its influence on the contemporary bilateral relations of Peru and Chile.
