Abstract:

Dizertační práce s názvem Konverze Čechů k islámu zkoumá zkušenosti Čechů a Češek, kteří se rozhodli přijmout islám za své náboženství. Hlavním účelem sepsání této studie je snaha o vnesení více porozumění do procesu jejich konverze a prozkoumání příčin, které vybrané jedince k přijetí islámu dovedly. V rámci této snahy se pokusím kriticky zhodnotit několik výzkumných okruhů (proč je konverze k islámu atraktivní volbou, jak probíhal proces konverze u vybraných jedinců a jaký je širší kontext zkoumaných konverzí). Cílem je zároveň pochopení některých společenských důsledků, které se v kontextu zkoumaných konverzí objevují. Výzkum je vystavěn především na dlouhodobém terénním průzkumu, který byl realizován od konce roku 2019 do konce roku 2022. Jeho základem se stal kvalitativní výzkum, který synchronně kombinoval několik výzkumných metod (především zúčastněné a nezúčastněné pozorování, focus groups a hloubkové rozhovory). K interpretaci procesu konverze je v předkládané práci jako hlavní teoretický rámec výzkumu využit holistický model Lewise R. Ramba, tzv. stage model of conversion (1993), který předpokládá sedm fází procesu (kontext, krize, hledání, setkání, interakce, závazek a důsledky).

Abstract:

The dissertation entitled Conversion of Czechs to Islam examines the experiences of Czechs and Czechs who have decided to accept Islam as their religion. The main purpose of writing this study is to try to bring more understanding to the process of their conversion and to explore the reasons that led the selected individuals to accept Islam. As part of this effort, I will try to critically evaluate several areas of research (why conversion to Islam is an attractive option, how the conversion process took place for selected individuals, and what is the wider context of the investigated conversions). At the same time, the goal is to understand some of the social consequences that appear in the context of the investigated conversions. The research is primarily based on a long-term field survey, which was carried out from the end of 2019 to the end of 2022. It was based on qualitative research, which synchronously combined several research methods (mainly participant and non-participant observation, focus groups and in-depth interviews). To interpret the conversion process, the main theoretical framework of the research is Lewis R. Rambo's holistic model, the so-called stage model of conversion (1993), which assumes seven stages of the process (context, crisis, search, meeting, interaction, commitment and consequences).
