Comparison of the foreign policy of Barack Obama and Donald Trump towards Iran

Abstract:

Závěrečná práce se zaměřuje na porovnání zahraniční politiky dvou amerických prezidentů, Baracka Obamy a Donalda Trumpa, vůči Íránu. Práce je vedena na základě komparativního porovnání, a vychází z dostupných, volně dohledatelných zdrojů. Autor se v práci zaměřuje zejména na projevy obou prezidentů, klíčové summity a zlomové okamžiky během období obou prezidentů. Pro lepší pochopení situace je v práci popsána také historie vztahů mezi USA a Íránem, neboť historie je v aktuální problematice vzájemných vztahů velice klíčová. Popsána je také historie Íránského jaderného programu, který je hlavním bodem zahraniční politiky obou prezidentů. Cílem této práce je analyzovat, jakým způsobem oba prezidenti přistupovali k problému iránského jaderného programu a jakým způsobem se snažili řešit konflikty mezi Spojenými státy a Íránem. Dalším důležitým cílem je analýza osobností Baracka Obamy a Donalda Trumpa, neboť právě jejich osobnost a rétorika jsou podmínkami pro pochopení americké zahraniční politiky vůči Íránu v letech 2009-2021.

Abstract:

The final thesis focuses on comparing the foreign policy of two American presidents, Barack Obama and Donald Trump, towards Iran. The work is conducted on the basis of a comparative comparison, and is based on available, freely searchable sources. In the work, the author focuses mainly on the speeches of both presidents, key summits and turning points during the periods of both presidents. For a better understanding of the situation, the work also describes the history of relations between the USA and Iran, as history is very crucial in the current issue of mutual relations. The history of Iran's nuclear program, which is the main point of the foreign policy of both presidents, is also described. The aim of this thesis is to analyze how both presidents approached the problem of the Iranian nuclear program and how they tried to resolve the conflicts between the United States and Iran. Another important goal is the analysis of the personalities of Barack Obama and Donald Trump, because it is their personality and rhetoric that are the conditions for understanding the American foreign policy towards Iran in the years 2009-2021.
