Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou hvězdného obrazu herečky Katharine Hepburn v žánrech, se kterými není spojována. Jedná se o dva filmy ze čtyřicátých let, Keeper of the Flame (1942) a Undercurrent (1946). Oba filmy jsou klasifikovány jako drama, melodrama, thriller nebo také film noir. Hlavním cílem práce je zjistit, jak hvězdný obraz herečky v těchto filmech fungoval a zdali se postavy nějak významně liší od postav, které Hepburn ztvárnila v romantických komediích. Podle metodologie od Richarda Dyera, věnující se konstrukci postavy, jsou zkoumány jednotlivé postavy z obou filmů. Následně je v práci zohledněna také propagace filmů, hodnocení a komentáře. Rovněž se práce soustředí na to, do jaké míry, můžeme u obou snímků mluvit o filmu noir. Z provedené analýzy vyplývá, že postavy ztvárněné v těchto filmech jsou více submisivní než postavy v komediích. Recenze od diváků to rovněž potvrzují. Ukázalo se, že bylo pro diváky těžké přijmout herečku v takové roli, jelikož byla vždy známá pro svoji sebevědomou povahu.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the analysis of the star image of actress Katharine Hepburn in the genres of films with which she is not associated. These are two films from the 1940s, Keeper of the Flame (1942) and Undercurrent (1946). Both films are classified as drama, melodrama, thriller or also film noir. The main aim of this thesis is to find out how the star image of the actress worked in these films and whether the characters differ in any significant way from those portrayed by Hepburn in romantic comedies. Following Richard Dyer's methodology of character construction, individual characters from both films are examined. Subsequently, the thesis also considers the films' publicity, ratings and commentary. Also, the thesis focuses on the extent to which, for both films, we can talk about film noir. From the analysis conducted, it is concluded that the characters portrayed in these films, are more submissive than the characters in the comedies. Audience reviews also confirm this. It turned out that it was difficult for the audience to accept the actress in such a role as she was always known for her confident nature.
