Liber certarum historiarum of Johann von Viktring as a source of knowledge of the development in the Czech lands in the 2nd half of the 13th century and the 1st half of the 14th century

Abstract:

Tématem této práce je rozbor kroniky Liber certarum historiarum korutanského opata Jana z Viktringu. Cílem autorky je analyzovat několik vybraných událostí vztahujících se k Českému království a s pomocí sekundární literatury tak kroniku představit jako pramen k českým dějinám přelomu 13. a 14. století. Teoretická část je věnována souhrnu dosavadních odborných poznatků o Janovi z Viktringu, jeho kronice a o středověké historiografii a obsahuje rovněž shrnutí politického vývoje Českého království od období vlády posledních Přemyslovců po nástup Lucemburské dynastie. Praktická část je rozdělena do dvanácti kapitol, v každé se autorka zabývá jinou klíčovou událostí českých dějin, tak jak je korutanský kronikář zachytil, a snaží se je interpretovat v kontextu současného stavu historického bádání.

Abstract:

The subject of this thesis is an analysis of the chronicle Liber certarum historiarum by carinthian abbot Johann von Viktring. Author's goal is to analyse some of the chosen events relating to the Kingdom of Bohemia and to present the chronicle with the aid of secondary literature as a source for czech history at turn of the 13th and 14th century. The thesis is divided into two parts, the theoretical one sums up scholarly knowledge about Johann von Viktring, his chronicle and historiography in the Middle Ages and it also includes a short summary of the political development of Czech Kingdom in times of the last Přemyslids and first Luxembourgs. The analysis as a second part is divided into 12 chapters, each one of them adresses a different event from the czech history as it was captured by the chronicler and the author tries to explicate it in the context of current historical research.
