Generativity and stagnation in the context of coping with stress in middle adulthood

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na souvislosti generativity, stagnace a copingových strategií ve střední dospělosti. Cílem bylo zjistit, s jakými copingovými strategiemi se pojí generativita a s jakými stagnace. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 134 respondentů (58,2 % žen; 41,8 % mužů) ve věku 30 – 45 let. Míru generativního zájmu jsme zjišťovali pomocí Loyola Generativity Scale (LGS) a míru generativního jednání prostřednictvím Generativity Behavioral Checklist (GBC). K měření míry stagnace jsme použili Bradley-based Stagnation Scale (BSS) a k měření preference copingových strategií jsme použili Coping Strategies Inventory (CSI). Nalezli jsme vztah mezi generativním jednáním, generativním zájmem a adaptivními copingovými strategiemi, a také vztah mezi stagnací a neadaptivními strategiemi, zejména sociální izolací.

Abstract:

This master thesis is focused on the connection between generativity, stagnation and coping strategies during middle adulthood. The aim was to find out which coping strategies are linked to generativity and which are connected to stagnation. The research group consisted of 134 respondents aged between 30 and 45 years - 58,2% female, 41,8% male. The rate of generative commitment was measured by Loyola Generativita Scale (LGS), the rate of generative action by Generativity Behavioral Checklist (GBC). We used Bradley-based Stagnation Scale (BSS) to measure a level of stagnation and Coping Strategies Inventory (CSI) to specify the preferred coping strategies. We found a relation between generative action, generative commitment and adaptive coping strategies and also a relation between stagnation and non-adaptive strategies, especially social isolation.
