Handyman – Masculinity as a guarantee of success

Abstract:

Cílem práce je analyzovat vybrané webové stránky, na kterých se představují řemeslníci označovaní jako hodinoví manželé. Konkrétně je zaměřena na to, jakým způsobem je při této sebeprezentaci využívána maskulinita. K analýze je vybráno patnáct webových stránek hodinových manželů z českého krajského města. Za pomoci odborné literatury je definován pojem maskulinita, který je pro účely práce zcela klíčový. Právě projevy maskulinity jsou totiž základním bodem analýzy webových stránek. Jsou představeny také zahraniční výzkumy mužů pracující v sektoru domácích prací. Analýza se bude opírat o dva klíčové body – nejdříve budou stránky analyzovány z pohledu využitých strategií vlastní prezentace z pohledu kvalifikace, například jestli řemeslníci nabízejí potencionálním klientům písemná potvrzení svého dosaženého vzdělání či způsobilosti, nebo spoléhají pouze na to, že manuální zručnost je jednou z nejčastěji uváděných charakteristik maskulinity. Druhým bodem potom bude analýza stránek podle toho, jakým způsobem hodinoví manželé prezentují své služby. Text v této části bude zaměřen především na to, vůči komu se zde živnostníci vymezují.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is an analysis of fifteen websites of craftsmen, who are basically called „handymen“ or „hubbies“. I will analyse, how they work with masculinity on these websites. The selection of choosen websites was made with regards to place, where they set their crafts – one of the county seats of the Czech Republic. Selection of texts, used in this thesis, is based on concept of masculinity, which is the key concept for consequential analysis of websites. In this text, there are presented another researchs, which deal with male domestic workers from another countries. The analysis is based on two main issues – strategy which handymen use to present their ability to do craft jobs and how they present their services. In this point, the texts will focus on the ways hubbies define it with regards to others.
