Abstract:

In this thesis, we focus on the issues of linear regression and compare numerical methods for computing regression coefficients. Specifically, we examine the impact of different numerical methods on the accuracy of regression coefficient calculation, using Cholesky decomposition, Gram-Schmidt decomposition, and Householder transformations. The thesis first presents the theoretical basis of linear regression. Then, individual numerical methods and their functioning principles are presented. Subsequently, the accuracy and speed of these methods are compared on simulated data. The results show that using the correct numerical method has a significant impact on the accuracy of regression coefficient calculation. Gram-Schmidt decomposition and Householder transformations show similar results and are the most accurate, but Cholesky decomposition proved to be the fastest method. This thesis demonstrates that selecting the appropriate numerical method is important for computing regression coefficients in linear regression.

Abstract:

V této bakalářské práci se věnujeme problematice lineární regrese a porovnáváním numerických metod na výpočet regresních koeficientů. Konkrétně zkoumá vliv různých numerických metod na přesnost výpočtu regresních koeficientů, a to pomocí Choleského rozkladu, Gram-Schmidtova rozkladu a Householderových transformací. V práci se nejprve uvádí teoretický základ lineární regrese. Následně se prezentují jednotlivé numerické metody a jejich princip fungování. Poté se provádí porovnání přesnosti a rychlosti těchto metod na simulovaných datech. Výsledky ukazují, že použití správné numerické metody má velký vliv na přesnost výpočtu regresních koeficientů. Gram-Schmidtův rozklad a Householderovy transformace ukazují podobné výsledky a byly nejpřesnější, ale Choleského rozklad se ukázal jako nejrychlejší metoda. Tato práce ukazuje, že výběr správné numerické metody je důležitý při výpočtu regresních koeficientů v lineární regresi.
