The Changes in Journalistic Practices in Editorial Staff from the Home News Team of Economia Within the Framework of Convergence

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá proměnou pracovních rutin redaktorů z domácího týmu společnosti Economia. Cílem diplomové práce je v teoretické části na základě odborné literatury vymezit základní koncepty, a to mediální organizace, pracovní rutiny a vlivy na pracovní rutiny. V teoretické části se dále zabýváme trendem konvergence, v jehož rovině se zaměřujeme na multiskilling, technologickou inovaci a organizační strukturu v mediální organizaci. Na závěr kapitoly popisujeme hlavní body pro úspěšné zavedení konvergence v redakci a specifická kritéria, která mohou proces konvergence v redakci umožnit. Na základě představené teoretické roviny jsme v metodologické části práce vymezili cíl práce a výzkumné otázky. Na ty jsme získali následně odpověď s pomocí kvalitativních metod výzkumu s použitím hloubkových rozhovorů a analýzy dokumentů. Pomocí těchto metod zkoumáme redakční kulturu, strukturu řízení, technologické změny v redakci a vývoj multimediálních dovedností novinářů, což nám následně umožní zjistit, jak se proměnily pracovní rutiny členů domácího týmu Economie v Karlíně po fúzi společnosti. V empirické části vyhodnocujeme výsledky zkoumání a odpovíme na stanovené výzkumné otázky. Hlavním přínosem práce je teoretické a empirické zpracování problematiky, která v českém prostředí není dostatečně prozkoumaná. Diplomová práce je zčásti replikou výzkumu z roku 2014. Výzkum dává možnost porovnání se zahraničními médii, která procházejí podobnými změnami jako společnost Economia.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the transformation of working routines of editorial staff from the Home News Team of Economia. The aim of this thesis is in the theoretical part to define the basic concepts; That are media organizations, work routines and effects on the working routine. In the theoretical section we also define the trend of convergence in the focus on multi-skilling, technological innovation, and organizational structure of the media organization. At the end of the chapter we describe the key points for successful implementation of convergence in newsrooms, and specific criteria which can make the process of convergence in the newsroom permit. Based on the theoretical level, we introduced the methodological part by defininig the design of our paper and research questions. In our thesis we used qualitative research methods, that are in-depth interviews and document analysis. Using these methods, we examine the editorial culture, management structure and technological changes in the newsroom and the development of multimedia skills of journalists, which will then allow us to figure out how the working routines of members of the Home News Team of Economie were changed after the company merged with Centrum Holdings. In the empirical part we evaluate the results of the examination and answer research questions. The main contribution of this work is theoretical and empirical processing issues, which in the Czech Republic is not sufficiently explored. The thesis is part of a replica of the research from the year 2014. The research gives the opportunity to compare with foreign media, which undergo similar changes as the company Economia.
