Abstract:

ANOTACE Bakalářská práce The Portraiture of the Ideal Woman in S. Richardson s Novel se zabývá hlavní hrdinkou epistolárního románu Pamelou, která pochází z chudé venkovské rodiny a seznamuje se s životem vyšší anglické společnosti. Na své cestě ke štěstí prochází nelehkými životními situacemi. Mladá, krásná, pracovitá a skromná dívka je za svou nevinnost, ctnost a vybrané chování odměněna sňatkem s bohatým venkovským šlechticem, a tím se zařazuje do vyšší vrstvy. Stává se obrazem ideální ženy tehdejší společnosti. Dílo S. Richardsona bylo napadáno pro jeho sentiment a idealismus, avšak setkalo se rovněž s obrovským úspěchem. Stalo se literárním fenoménem osmnáctého století. V díle se odráží nejen život tehdejší společnosti, jejich hodnoty a ctnosti, ale také kultura a móda. Autor klade velký důraz na detail, vyprávění je bohaté a retrospektivní. Do popředí se dostávají charaktery jednotlivých osob, což má psychologický dopad na čtenáře. Richardsonovo dílo reflektuje morální ponaučení, které plyne z příběhu chudé služebné na cestě k lepšímu životu. Cílem bakalářské práce bylo ukázat nelehký úděl ženy osmnáctého století, jejich postoje a přednosti, které jsou nám dnes téměř cizí, ale také pohled na tehdejší postavení žen a úlohu vzdělání.

Abstract:

ANOTATION The bachelor thesis The Portraiture of the Ideal Woman in S. Richardson s Novel undertakes a main heroine Pamela of the epistolary novel, who comes from a poor country family and meets life of the upper class English society. On her journey to happiness she goes through uneasy life situations. A young beautiful laborious and modest girl is for her innocence, virtue and good conduct rewarded with a marriage to wealthy squire, and this helps her to rank among the upper class. She becomes a picture of an ideal woman of that society. S. Richardson s work was criticized for its sentiment and idealism; however it meant a huge success. It became a literary phenomenon of the eighteenth century. The work reflects not only life of that society, their values and virtue, but also culture and fashion. The author insists upon details, the narrative is rich and retrospective. Characters of individual persons come to fore. This has a psychological impact on the reader. The Richardson s work reflects a moral lesson that unwinds from the story of the poor waiting maid on her journey to better life. The aim of the bachelor thesis was to point at the formidable fate of an eighteenth-century women, their attitudes and virtue that are almost strange to us, but also a view on then status of women and function of education.
