The role of the potential employee's appearance in the recruitment process

Abstract:

Práce poskytuje náhled do problematiky společenských stereotypů vůči lidem s alternativním zevnějškem. Tetování, piercing, netradiční styl oblékání nebo účesu jsou populární způsoby sebevyjádření zejména u mladších generací. I přes rostoucí zájem o ně však u některých osob vyvolávají negativní pocity a předsudky. Při přijímání zaměstnanců je stěžejní co nejobjektivněji zhodnotit kompetenci všech kandidátů a zajistit, aby rozhodování probíhalo na základě jejich dovedností a kvalifikace. Vzhled kandidáta však může rozhodování náborového managementu ovlivnit. Z dat získaných pomocí dotazníkového šetření vyšlo najevo, že ačkoliv jsou lidé s alternativními úpravami považováni za kreativní, mohou být při náboru znevýhodněni, a to zejména pokud se jedná o ženy. Přítomnost alternativních úprav působí negativně především na vnímání příslušníků generace baby boomers, mladší generace jsou vůči nim shovívavější.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis provides an insight into the issue of social stereotypes towards peo-ple with alternative arrangements. Tattoos, piercings, unconventional styles of dressing or hairstyles are popular ways of expressing oneself, especially in the younger generations. However, despite the growing interest in them, they evoke negative feelings and prejudices in some people. When recruiting staff, it is crucial to assess the competencies of all candidates as objectively as possible and to ensure that decision-making is based on their skills and qualifications. However, the candidate's appearance can influence decisions of recruiters. The data obtained from the questionnaire survey showed that although people with alternative arrangements are considered creative, they may be at a disadvantage in recruitment, especially if they are female. The presence of alternative modifications has a negative effect on the perception of members of the baby boomers, younger generations are more lenient towards them.
