Aquatic macroinvertebrates as a food of waterfowl in standing water ecosystems

Abstract:

The basic component of food for many water bird species inhabiting the backwater are various groups of aquatic invertebrates. The importance of this component in the diet varies depending on the season, the character of the water body, trophic relationships and community composition of the aquatic invertebrates in it. The sufficiency of suitable food items can markedly affect the nesting opportunities for many waterfowl species. Aquatic invertebrates are most important during nesting and breeding period. It is also usually the only component of food of juveniles in the first days after hatching. In the Czech republic fish ponds are the most important habitat for water birds. It is very important to realize that this is where there is a significant competition for food with fish. In this bachelor thesis research findings of feeding ecology of 11 water bird species were compared and evaluated: the Little Grebe (Tachybaptus ruficollis), the Red-necked Grebe (Podiceps grisegena), the Black-necked Grebe (Podiceps nigricollis), the Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus), the Common Teal (Anas crecca), the Northern Shoveller (Anas clypeata), the Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos), the Common Pochard (Aythya ferina), the Tufted Duck (Aythya fuligula), the Common Goldeneye (Bucephala clangula) and the Coot (Fulica atra).

Abstract:

Základnou zložkou potravy pre mnohé vodné druhy vtákov osídľujúcich stojaté vody sú rôzne skupiny vodných bezstavovcov. Význam tejto zložky v potrave sa pritom mení v závislosti na ročnom období, charaktere vodného telesa, trofických vzťahoch a zložení spoločenstva vodných bezstavovcov v ňom. Dostatok vhodnej potravy môže pritom výrazne ovplyvňovať hniezdne možnosti mnohých druhov vodných vtákov. Najdôležitejšie sú vodné bezstavovce práve v dobe hniezdenia a vyvádzania mláďat. Pre mladé jedince sú tiež väčšinou jedinou zložkou potravy v prvých dňoch po vyliahnutí. Na území ČR sú najdôležitejším biotopom pre vtáky rybníky. Je dôležité si uvedomiť, že práve tam dochádza k výraznej potravnej konkurenicii s rybami. V tejto bakalárskej práci boli pre porovnanie a vyhodnotenie rešeršne spracované poznatky z výskumov ohľadom potravnej ekológie 11 druhov vtákov: potápka malá (Tachybaptus ruficollis), potápka červenokrká (Podiceps grisegena), potápka čiernokrká (Podiceps nigricollis), potápka chochlatá (Podiceps cristatus), kačica chrapkavá (Anas crecca), kačica lyžičiarka (Anas clypeata), kačica divá (Anas platyrhynchos), chochlačka sivá (Aythya ferina), chochlačka vrkočatá (Aythya fuligula), hlaholka severská (Bucephala clangula) a lyska čierna (Fulica atra).
