Quality of life of children with hematologic malignancies

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem diplomové práce bylo zjistit, zda a jak ovlivňují hematologické malignity kvalitu života dětí z pohledu jejich rodičů. Zjišťovali jsme, které aspekty kvality života jsou nejvíce ovlivněny výskytem hematologických malignit. Prostřednictvím dílčích cílů jsme zkoumali, zda mají specifické faktory vliv na kvalitu života těchto dětí. Metodika: Respondenty byly rodiče 59 dětí s hematologickými malignitami ve věku dítěte od 2 do 12 let. K posouzení kvality života byl zvolen kvantitativní výzkum. Pro získání dat byly aplikovány standardizované dotazníky PedsQL? 4.0 a PedsQL? 3.0 Cancer Module J.W.Varniho. Dotazníkové šetření probíhalo na dětských onkologických a hematoonkologických centrech. K vyhodnocení výsledků byl použit t-test a Pearsonův korelační koeficient. Výsledky: Z výsledků výzkumu vyplývá, že výskyt nádorového onemocnění nejvíce zasahuje do dimenze tělesné zdraví. Z dalšího srovnání parametrů plyne, že věk a gender nemají vliv na kvalitu života dětí v naší studii. Při hodnocení kvality života dětí v závislosti na hospitalizaci, typu hematologické malignity a druhu zvolené terapie, byl nalezen statisticky významný rozdíl. Byly analyzovány souvislosti mezi obecnou kvalitou života dítěte a problémy způsobenými nádorovým onemocněním. Závěr: Při porovnání výsledků výzkumného šetření se zahraničními studiemi jsme zjistili, že rodiče v našem výzkumu hodnotí kvalitu života svých dětí negativněji. Nádorové onemocnění výrazně zasahuje do fyzické, psychické a sociální oblasti a narušuje jeho dosavadní styl života a chod rodiny. Důležité je aktivní vyhledávání faktorů, které mají vliv na kvalitu života dětí s nádorovým onemocněním a tím docílit zvyšování kvality života.

Abstract:

Aim: The aim of the thesis was to find out whether and how hematological malignancies affect the quality of children´s life from the perspective of their parents. We found which aspects of the quality of life are the most affected by the incidence of hematological malignancies. Through the intermediate aims we investigated whether specific factors influence the quality of life of these children. Methodology: The respondents were parents of 59 children with hematological malignancies in the age of the child from 2 to 12 years old. The appraisal of quality of life was elected by the quantitative research. The data were gained through the standardized questionnaires PedsQL? 4.0 and PedsQL? 3.0 Cancer Module of J.W.Varni. Questionnaire survey took place at the children's oncological and hematological centres. For the evaluate of the results was used t-test and the Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: The results of the research indicates that the occurrence of tumorous disease most extends into the dimension of physical health. From further comparison of the parameters shows that age and gender have no effect on the quality of children´s life. In the evaluation of the quality of children´s life, depending on the hospitalization, the type of hematological malignancies, and the type of the chosen therapy was found a statistically significant difference. Were analysed the relation between the general quality of life and the specific life´s quality of children with hematological malignancies. Conclusion: During the comparing of the research´s results with foreign studies we found that parents in our research evaluate the quality of life of their children more negative. Tumorous diseases significantly interferes into physical, psychological and social field and disrupts present style of life and the running of the family. It is important to the active search for the factors which have an impact on the quality of life of children with cancer and achieve to improve the quality of life.
