The Arab Spring in Tunisia

Abstract:

Tématem této bakalářské práce je revoluce v Tuniské republice. Tuniská revoluce byla součástí tzv. Arabského jara, které nakonec zasáhlo celou oblast regionu severní Afriky a Blízkého východu. Zmíněné události však začaly v Tunisu. Cílem práce je tedy identifikovat důvody revoluce v Tunisu a analyzovat, zda byla tak nečekaná, jak se na první pohled mohlo zdát. Jelikož se jednalo o spontánní lidové povstání, které vedlo až ke svržení vlády a změnu politického systému, pojednává první, teoretická, část práce o problematice legitimity vlády. Obsahem druhé a třetí části je využití teoretických poznatků v analýze ekonomického a politického vývoje v zemi a uvedení dalších možných důvodů revoluce. Závěrečné čtvrtá části se pak věnuje revoluci jako takové a stručně shrnuje současnou situaci v zemi.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the topic of the Tunisian revolution. The Tunisian revolution was part of the so called Arab Spring, which in the end affected the whole region of the Middle East and North Africa. These events started in Tunisia. The aim of the thesis is to identify the causes of revolution in Tunisia and to analyze, if the revolution was really so unexpected as it appeared at the first sight. It was a spontaneous popular uprising and it caused change not only of the government, but of the political system as such. That is why the first chapter of the thesis deals with the problematic of legitimacy of the regime. The second and the third part of the thesis deal with economic and political development in the country and also other possible causes of the revolution are mentioned. The last fourth chapter describes the revolution and draws a short summary of current situation in the country.
