Applications of Laser ToF Sensors in Building Automation

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá laserovými Time of Flight senzory z rodiny FlightSense a jejich využitím v automatizaci budov. Nosné téma práce představovaly laserové Time of Flight senzory, které byly zkoumány z pohledu jejich možného využití k řízení vybraných systémů techniky prostředí a spotřebičů v budově. Jedná se o téma aktuální, které bylo podpořeno požadavkem praxe, konkrétně firmou Schneider Electric CZ, s.r.o. V teoretické části jsou popsány základní pojmy problematiky jako automatizace, automatizace budov a senzory. Poté následuje vysvětlení technologie ToF, laseru a představení rodiny senzorů FlightSense od společnosti STMircoelectronics, kde jsou popsány jednotlivé vlastnosti senzorů FlightSense, které se nachází na trhu. Dále jsou analyzovány možné alternativy ToF senzorů, které existují a využívají se v automatizaci budov, a jaké jsou jejich výhody či nevýhody oproti ToF senzorům. Praktická část práce zahrnuje popis možných využití ToF senzorů v automatizaci budov. V praktické části byla řešena detekce objektu a snímání jednoduchých gest, ale také kalibrace senzoru. Praktická realizace byla prováděna pomocí FlightSense senzoru typu VL53L3CX ve vývojovém prostředí CubeIDE. Na závěr jsou zhodnoceny vytvořené praktické realizace a jsou vypsány jednotlivé poznatky a problémy, které byly během vytváření praktické realizace zjištěny.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with laser Time of Flight sensors from the FlightSense family and their use in building automation. The main topic of the thesis was laser Time of Flight sensors, which were investigated from the point of view of their possible use for controlling selected systems of environmental technology and appliances in the building. This is a topical topic, which was supported by the requirement of practice, namely by Schneider Electric CZ, s.r.o. In the theoretical part, the basic concepts of the subject such as automation, building automation and sensors are described. This is followed by an explanation of the ToF technology, the laser and an introduction to the FlightSense sensor family from STMircoelectronics, where the different features of FlightSense sensors that are on the market are described. Furthermore, possible alternatives to ToF sensors that exist and are used in building automation are analysed and what are their advantages or disadvantages compared to ToF sensors. The practical part of the thesis includes a description of possible applications of ToF sensors in building automation. In the practical part, object detection and sensing of simple gestures as well as sensor calibration were addressed. The practical implementation was carried out using a FlightSense sensor type VL53L3CX in the CubeIDE development environment. Finally, the developed practical implementation is evaluated and the individual findings and problems that were identified during the development of the practical implementation are listed.
