Extension of German language in the Czech Republic and its prospects: Survey of the number of learners and their motives

Abstract:

In my bachelor thesis I make a comparison of the number of German learners in three regions of the Czech Republic and the conditions that can influence the interest in German. From the relation between the conditions and the number of the learners I learn if better conditions for German teaching influence the interest it the language. The most important factors are mainly the location of the region (if it is situated on the border with German speaking country or not), the presence of the institutions supporting German language, job opportunities with the use of German, the cooperation of the border regions and the strategic priorities of the region. Another thing I deal with is the prospect of the German language in the Czech Republic and how the situation in the regions corresponds with that. Here I take in consideration the opinions of the experts and their points of view. Important indicator is also the development of the number of the German learners in last few years. In the theoretical part I make a survey of the language policy. We learn what the conditions in the Czech Republic for the spread of the multilingualism are like, which determines also the chances of German in the Czech environment. And last but not least we find out what tools for language support have the German speaking countries und which ones are active in the Czech Republic.

Abstract:

Ve své bakalářské práci se zabývám srovnáním počtů lidí učících se němčinu ve třech regionech České republiky a podmínkami, které mohou výuku a zájem o německý jazyk ovlivňovat. Vyhodnocením vztahu mezi podmínkami a počtem studentů v regionu zjišťuji, jestli mají lepší podmínky pro výuku němčiny vliv na zájem o tento jazyk. Za hlavní faktory považuji především polohu kraje (jestli sousedí s německy mluvící zemí nebo ne), přítomnost institucí na podporu německého jazyka, pracovní příležitosti s využitím němčiny, spolupráci příhraničních regionů a strategické priority v daném kraji. Dále zjišťuji, jaké vyhlídky má německý jazyk v České republice a jestli tomu odpovídá situace v daných regionech. Opírám se o názory odborníků a jejich pohled na věc. Dalším ukazatelem je vývoj počtu lidí učících se němčinu v posledních letech. V teoretické části řeším jazykověpolitické pozadí tématu. Zde se dozvídáme, jaké vládnou v ČR podmínky pro rozvoj mnohojazyčnosti, které určují i šance němčiny na uplatnění, a také to, jakými nástroji na podporu jazyka disponují německy mluvící země a které z těchto nástrojů jsou uplatněny v České republice.
