Information Value of Fiction: A Conceptual Model for the Description of Fiction in Information Systems

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou umělecké literatury jakožto zdroje informací. V teoretické části práce je vymezeno pojetí informace a z toho plynoucí filosofické východisko. Následně se přistupuje k definici umělecké literatury a beletrie. Beletrie je pojímána jako druh umělecké literatury a je definována jako epická umělecká literatura. Umělecká literatura je vymezena převažující estetickou funkcí a fikční referencí. Problematika fikční reference je vysvětlena v kapitole věnující se teorii fikčních světů Lubomíra Doležala. V navazující kapitole je argumentováno ve prospěch beletrie jako informačního zdroje. Problém fikční reference je osvětlen v rámci Aristotelova pojmu mimésis. Získávání informací z beletrie je patrně činností dějící se na pozadí estetického prožitku. Beletrie má svoji nenahraditelnou roli při poznání, a proto je v praktické části navržen konceptuální model pro analytický popis aboutness fikčních světů beletrie. Klíčovou rolí knihovny je zprostředkovat informace a metadatově obohacený knižní katalog může sloužit jako místo, kam se čtenář vydá hledat další čtenářský zážitek. Navržený konceptuální model poskytuje metadatovou základnu, kterou by bylo vhodné dále rozpracovávat.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the issue of art literature as a source of information. In the theoretical part of the thesis the concept of information and the resulting philosophical basis is delimited. Subsequently, the definition of art literature and fiction is approached. Fiction is conceived as a kind of art literature and is defined as epic art literature. Art literature is defined by the predominant aesthetic function and the fictional reference. The issue of fictional reference is explained in the chapter devoted to the Dolezal’s theory of fictional worlds. In the following chapter fiction is argued to be the source of information. The problem of the fictional reference is illuminated within Aristotle's notion of mimesis. Obtaining information from fiction is probably the activity behind-the-scenes of the aesthetic experience. Fiction has an irreplaceable role for cognition, and therefore in the practical part the conceptual model for an analytical description of aboutness of the fictional worlds of fiction is proposed. The key role of a library is to mediate information and a metadata-enriched book catalogue can serve as a place for the reader to set out in search of another reading experience. The proposed conceptual model provides the metadata basis that should be further developed.
