Morphological symmetry of chelae in a selected group of palaemonid shrimps (Crustacea: Decapoda)

Abstract:

Tato práce se věnuje tvarové symetrii klepet (2. pereopodů) u vybrané skupiny krevet čeledi Palaemonidae. Hlavní část je věnována literární rešerši zahrnující systematické zařazení, rozšíření, ekologii a stavbu těla krevet této čeledi; převážně se zabývá morfologií a funkcí hlavních pereopodů u pravých krevet infrařádu Caridea, včetně čeledi Palaemonidae. Práce obsahuje originální kresby 2. pereopodů krevet čeledi Palaemonidae. V experimentální části se zabývá tvarovou symetrií klepet 2. pereopodů krevet Pon-I komplexu (dle Chow et al. 2020) zahrnující část tradiční podčeledi Pontoniinae. Na základě publikovaných popisů typových jedinců i dalších prací, klepeta krevet většiny rodů mají prsty přibližně stejně dlouhé jako dlaň a chela je větší než karpus. Společným znakem je i téměř výlučná absence zvukotvorného aparátu a také absence dentikulace na okluzních hranách klepet. Zvukotvorný aparát nalezneme u jediného rodu Periclimenella komplexu Pon-I.

Abstract:

This thesis provides insight into the symmetry of the shape of claws (2nd pereopods) in a selected group of the shrimp family of Palaemonidae. The main section of the thesis includes a literature review including systematic classification, distribution, ecology, and body structure of this shrimp family; mainly dealing with the morphology and function of the main pereopods of true shrimp of the infraorder of Caridea, including the family of Palaemonidae. The thesis also includes my original drawings of 2nd pereopods of the shrimp family of Palaemonidae. The experimental part deals with the second chelipeds symmetry of shrimps of the Pon-I complex of the traditional Pontoniinae (sensu Chow et al. 2020). Based on published reports on type species as wellas on other studies, speies of most genera have about the same length of fingers as the palm., and the chela is larger than the carpus. Among common features is the absence of a sound-producing apparatus, as well as the absence of denticulation on the cutting edges. The sound-producing apparatus in the Pon-I complex can be found only in the genus of Periclimenella.
