Tick-borne Encephalitis in the Context of New Scientific Knowledge

Abstract:

Klíšťová encefalitida je závažné nervové onemocnění. V České republice onemocní průměrně 700 lidí ročně. Z tohoto důvodu tato bakalářská práce shrnuje dosud dostupné informace o klíšťové encefalitidě s cílem zvýšit informovanost obyvatelstva. Samotná práce je rozdělená do sedmi kapitol pojednávajících o nákaze, projevech nemoci, léčbě a také o prevenci proti této neuroinfekci. První kapitola se věnuje popisu klíšťat Ixodes ricinus a Ixodes persulcatus přenášející virus z čeledi Flaviviridae. Současně tento virus charakterizuje a poukazuje na podtypy onemocnění závislé na zeměpisné šířce způsobené tímto virem. Další kapitola se zaměřuje na příznaky onemocnění a samotný průběh nemoci. Nebezpečnost onemocnění je dána tím, že její druhá fáze již poškozuje mozek. Součástí kapitoly věnující se charakteristice onemocnění je souhrn neurologických příznaků v akutní fázi onemocnění, které se zaměřují na příznaky bolesti hlavy, tremoru a ochrnutí míšního a hlavového nervu. Další kapitoly zahrnují popis diagnostiky a léčby klíšťové encefalitidy a její prevenci, na kterou je kladen důraz. Kapitola zaměřená na očkování představuje jak typy vakcín dostupné na českém trhu, jejich aplikaci a účinnost, tak informace, které nejsou lehce dostupné jako možné nežádoucí účinky a škodlivost látek v nich obsažených. Zejména hydroxid hlinitý jako tzv. adjuvans může negativně působit na činnost mozku. Důležité je, aby lidé měli povědomí o závažnosti této nemoci a o tom, jak jí předcházet. Závěr práce je věnován epidemiologii v České republice od roku 2003 do roku 2013 a díky spolupráci s Univerzitou ve Wroclawi také v Polsku od roku 2003 do roku 2012. Dále srovnává počet nakažených klíšťovou encefalitidou a lymeskou boreliózou, dvou nejčastějších onemocnění přenášených klíšťaty.

Abstract:

Tick-borne encephalitis is a serious neurological disease. 700 people a year fall ill in the Czech republic on average. For this reason, this bachelor thesis summarizes available information about tick-borne encephalitis in terms of increase knowledge of population. The thesis is divided into seven chapters dealing with infection, characteristic desease, treatment and prevention against this neuroinfection. The first chapter is devoted to the description of ticks Ixodes ricinus and Ixodes persulcatus who transmit the virus of the family Flaviviridae. Simultaneously, the chapter characterize the virus and describe subtypes of the disease dependent on the latitude caused by this virus. The next chapter focuses on the symptoms and progress of the disease. The danger of the disease is caused by the fact that the second phase has been damaging to the brain. Part of the chapter devoted to the characterization of the disease is the summary of neurological symptoms in the acute stage of the disease, which focus on the symptoms of headache, tremors and paralysis spinal and cranial nerve. The other chapters include a description of the diagnostics and treatment of tick-borne encephalitis and its prevention which is emphasized. The chapter about vaccination represents both types of vaccines available on the Czech market, their application and effectiveness and information which isn't easily accessible like possible undesirable effects and harmfulness of substances contained in them. Especially, aluminum hydroxide as the adjuvant may have a negative effect on brain activity. It is important that people have general awareness about the seriousness of this disease and how to prevent it. The conclusion is devoted to epidemiology in the Czech Republic from 2003 to 2013 and thanks to the cooperation with the University of Wroclaw also in Poland from 2003 to 2012. Moreover, the chapter compares the number of infected tick-borne encephalitis and Lyme borreliosis, the most two common disease transmitted by ticks.
