Preparation of textile samples with covalently bonded jodinated heteroborane

Abstract:

Práce se vůbec poprvé zabývá studiem faktorů ovlivňujících depozici boranovým klastrem stabilizovaného reaktivního jodoniového kationtu v molekule [8,8´-?-jodonium(1+)-kloso-1,2-dikarba-3-kobaltadodekaboran(10)]-3-Co(III)-komo-3´-[kloso-1´,2´-dikarba-3´-kobaltadodekaborátu(10)(1-)]0 (C8I) na povrch tkaných i netkaných polymerních textilií. K depozici dochází tvorbou pevných kovalentních vazeb boranu ke koncovým -OH skupinám polymerních řetězců. Předpokladem je, že alespoň některé unikátní vlastnosti kobalt bis-dikarbollidového aniontu, selektivní antimikrobiální, antivirová nebo povrchová aktivita, odolnost vůči kyselinám a zásadám, gama záření zhodnotí povrch běžných textilií pro jejich další aplikace. Depozice C8I byla studována na bavlněných tkaných textiliích a netkaných PES, PET a PETEX textilií za teploty okolí nebo za zvýšené reakční teploty. Nezreagovaný boran byl odstraněn kontinuální Soxhletovou extrakcí. Silná vazba heteroboranu k povrchu materiálu, respektive přítomnost centrálního atomu kobaltu z klastru, byla výhodně studována metodou XRF. Dále byly sledovány změny smáčivosti povrchu textilií měřením kontaktních úhlů s kapkami vody. Povrchy PET a PETEX se staly díky depozici C8I hydrofobnějšími. Ukázalo se, že C8I reaguje oproti [8-(1,4-dioxan-1-ium)(1+)-kloso-1,2-dikarba-3-kobaltadodekaboran(10)]-3-Co(III)-komo-3´-[kloso-1´,2´-dikarba-3´-kobaltadodekaborát(11)](1-) C8D s ligandy na povrchu textilií jen za mírných reakčních podmínek. Za vyšší teploty v refluxujícím acetonu naopak výtěžek i počet depozic klesl. Potvrdilo se, že je výhodné předem připravit povrch textilií k depozici praním s vodným roztokem tenzidu a deionizovanou vodou. Jako nejvhodnější rozpouštědla pro reakci C8I se ukázaly aceton a 1,4-dioxan. V budoucnu bude zkoumána antimikrobiální a katalytická aktivita těchto modifikovaných textilií.

Abstract:

The thesis deals for the first time with the study of factors influencing the deposition of borane cluster stabilized reactive iodonium cation in the molecule [8,8´-?-jodonium(1+)-closo-1,2-dicarba-3-cobaltadodecaborane(10)]-3-Co(III)-commo-3´-[closo-1´,2´-dicarba-3´-cobaltadodecaborate(10)(1-)]0 (C8I) on the surface of woven and non-woven polymeric textiles. Deposition occurs by the formation of strong covalent bonds of borane to the -OH end groups of polymer chains. It is anticipated that at least some of the unique properties of the cobalt bis-dicarbollide anion, selective antimicrobial, antiviral or surface activity, resistance to acids and bases, and gamma radiation will enhance the surface of conventional textiles for their subsequent applications. The deposition of C8I was studied on cotton woven textiles and non-woven PES, PET and PETEX textiles at ambient or elevated reaction temperatures. Unreacted borane was removed by continuous Soxhlet extraction. The strong binding of heteroborane to the material surface, or more precisely the presence of a central cobalt atom from the cluster, was advantageously studied by XRF. Furthermore, changes in the wetting behaviour of the fabric surface were monitored by measuring the contact angles with water droplets. PET and PETEX surfaces became more hydrophobic due to C8I deposition. C8I was shown to react with ligands on the textile surface only under mild reaction conditions compared to [8-(1,4-dioxan-1-ium)(1+)-closo-1,2-dicarba-3-cobaltadodecaboran(10)]-3-Co(III)-commo-3´-[closo-1´,2´-dicarba-3´-cobaltadodecaborate(11)](1-) C8D. Under higher temperature in refluxing acetone, on the other hand, the yield and the number of deposition decreased. It was confirmed that it is advantageous to prepare the surface of textiles for deposition in advance by washing with aqueous tenside solution and deionized water. Acetone and 1,4-dioxane were found to be the most suitable solvents for the C8I reaction. The antimicrobial and catalytic activity of these modified textiles will be investigated in the future.
