Cílem této práce je popsat tradice utopie a dystopie se zvláštním zaměřením na dílo Příběh služebnice (The Handmaid's Tale), které napsala spisovatelka Margaret Atwoodová. Úvodem se tato práce zaměřuje na popis utopie a dystopie jako takové. Posléze se věnuje tradičním znakům, které jsou v dystopických dílech běžné.
