The role of the social worker in support and self-help groups

Abstract:

Cílem mé bakalářská práce bylo zjistit, jaké role může sociální pracovník zastávat v podpůrných a svépomocných skupinách. Podpůrné a svépomocné skupiny se v současnosti stávají stále častější formou laické podpory. Z tohoto důvodu se v rámci této bakalářské práce snažím zjistit, jak mohou být sociální pracovníci těmto skupinám prospěšní a jaké role zastávají v rámci těchto skupin. Zapojení sociálních pracovníků v podpůrných a svépomocných skupinách může do těchto skupin přinést odbornou podporu vedle té laické, kterou poskytují samotní členi. V teoretické části práce jsou představeny podpůrné a svépomocné skupiny a jejich cíl spolu s činnostmi. Následně je vymezena role sociálního pracovníka v širším kontextu, ve skupině a na závěr jsou představeny možné role, které může sociální pracovník v podpůrných a svépomocných skupinách zastávat. V empirické části je představen samotný kvalitativní výzkum, výzkumná otázka a participanti výzkumu. Participanti jsou sociální pracovníci, kteří mají zkušenost s prací s podpůrnou či svépomocnou skupinou. Sběr dat probíhal prostřednictvím polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s participanty a získaná data byla analyzována pomocí kvalitativní obsahové analýzy s využitím kódování. V závěru empirické části práce jsou prezentována zjištění, kde jsou představeny identifikované role sociálních pracovníků v podpůrných a svépomocných skupinách.

Abstract:

The aim of my bachelor thesis was to find out what roles a social worker can play in support and self-help groups. Support and self-help groups are now becoming an increasingly common form of lay support. For this reason, this thesis seeks to find out how social workers can be beneficial to these groups and what roles they hold within these groups. The involvement of social workers in support and self-help groups can bring professional support to these groups in addition to the lay support provided by the members themselves. The theoretical part of the thesis introduces support and self-help groups and their purpose along with their activities. Then the role of the social worker is defined in a wider context, in the group, and finally the possible roles that the social worker can play in support and self-help groups are presented. In the empirical part, the qualitative research itself, the research question and the research participants are introduced. The participants are social workers who have experience of working with a support or self-help group. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews with the participants and the data collected was analysed through qualitative content analysis using coding. The findings are presented at the end of the empirical part of the thesis, where the identified roles of social workers in support and self-help groups are presented.
