Cryptocurrencies, their comparison with money and alternative investments

Abstract:

Práce se zaměřuje na kryptoměny, jejich srovnání s penězi a alternativními investicemi. Nejprve podává základní informace o blockchainu pro pochopení problematiky kryptoměn. Zkoumá historický vývoj ceny Bitcoinu pomocí technické a fundamentální analýzy. Zabývá se i alternativními kryptoměnami neboli altcoiny a také analýzou tržní kapitalizace. Následně Bitcoin srovnává s penězi pomocí funkcí a vlastností peněz. Porovnány jsou ale i vlastnosti a specifika jednotlivých trhů, jako je regulace, kriminalita, velkoobchodní subjekty ad. a také místa výskytu; Toto vše pro zjištění, kam kryptoměny zařadit, a rozhodnutí, zdali je můžeme považovat za měnu. Další částí je srovnání kryptoměn s tradičními trhy, jako jsou akciové a komoditní trhy, s pomocí korelační matice a informací, kterých jsem nabyl v průběhu zkoumání. Následně srovnává i alternativní investice v podobě automobilových veteránů, umění a nemovitostí. Část práce je věnována osobním zkušenostem z obchodování Bitcoinu a altcoinů.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on cryptocurrencies, their comparison with money and alternative investments. At first, it provides basic information about blockchain for understanding the topic of cryptocurrencies. It examines the historical price development of the Bitcoin with technical and fundamental analysis. It also deals with alternative cryptocurrencies – altcoins, as well as analysis of market capitalization. The thesis compares Bitcoin with money through the functions and properties of money. However, the characteristics and specificities of individual markets, such as regulation, crime, wholesalers, etc. and places of occurrence are also compared.; All this to find out where the cryptocurrencies belong and to decide whether we can treat them as a currency. Another part is the comparison of cryptocurrencies with traditional markets, such as stock and commodity markets, with the help of a correlation matrix and the information I have acquired during the research. Thesis then compares alternative investments in the form of automotive veterans, art and real estate. Part of the work is devoted to the personal experience of trading Bitcoin and altcoins.
