Woodworking tools and the development of the technology of the woodworking from the Iron Age to the Early Middle Age

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce bylo charakterizovat úroveň dřevoobráběcího řemesla v obdobích od doby laténské až po období vrcholného středověku. Vztahuje se k území České Republiky. Metodou je studium velikosti typologického spektra dřevoobráběcích nástrojů v jednotlivých obdobích. Dalším z cílů je charakterizovat morfologické změny na jednotlivých typech nástrojů pro jednotlivá období a popsat jejich vliv na funkci nástroje. Práce se také pokouší přiblížit pracovní úkony, které jednotlivé nástroje mohly plnit nejlépe, a jejich místo ve výrobním procesu. Rozdíly v možnostech obrábění dřeva v jednotlivých obdobích jsou demonstrovány na modelových výrobcích, které jsou společné všem obdobím, ale jejichž výrobní postupy se od sebe liší dostupností řemeslných nástrojů.

Abstract:

The purpose of this bachelor‘s thesis was to describe level of woodworking craft since the Latene period to the period of High Middle Ages. It covers territory of the Czech Republic. The method used is a study of a range of woodworking tools spectrum in each of the period. Another object of the thesis is to describe morphological changes of each type of the tools in each of the periods and also to describe its effect on function of each tool. The thesis also tries to characterize work operations that each of the tools could perform the best and to locate its place in production process. Differences in woodworking methods in each of the periods are demonstrated using model products, which are common to all periods but different production processes of which differentiate in availability of working tools.
