Comparative study of Japanese and European Folktales

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce komparatistickou metodou podrobněji srovnává vybrané japonské a evropské pohádky, tj. německé (Grimmové), francouzské (Perrault), české (Němcová a Erben), japonské v češtině (Černá a Novák) a japonské v originálním jazyce (Seki). Všechny použité sbírky jsou čerpány z místního folkloru. Nejprve je pomocí odborné literatury definován koncept pohádka a zasazen do historického kontextu, přičemž je brán ohled na terminologii tohoto konceptu především v japonštině, kde je obtížné určit správný výraz pro pohádku, jelikož se jedná původem o evropský žánr. Rovněž je zde rozebrána literární komparatistika, protože tvoří základní pilíř této práce. Poté je pohádka zasazena do kontextu dalších vědeckých přístupů. Samotná komparace na příkladech prezentuje společné a rozdílné rysy evropského a japonského pohádkového útvaru, na které čtenář nejčastěji může narazit. Z hlediska obsahu jsou porovnávány postavy příběhu, jejich společenství, role hlavního hrdiny a jeho pomocníka, vyskytující se zvířata a jejich úlohy a rovněž typy nadpřirozených tvorů. Dále je srovnáváno výchozí prostředí a dějiště příběhu. Zahrnuta jsou také čísla charakteristická pro pohádku. Z hlediska dějové náplně příběhu je kladen důraz na účel pohádky, tedy pobavení a poučení. Rovněž jsou zde srovnána i typická zakončení příběhu. Poslední kapitola se zabývá komparací jazykové roviny pohádkové narace v češtině a japonštině. Důraz je především kladen na zastaralou mluvu a odlišné dialekty, úvodní a závěrové formalizované věty, zvukomalebná slova, homonymní výrazy, opakování promluvy a poezii. Všechny tyto prvky jsou typické pro japonské vyprávění a tato práce zjišťuje, zda se podobné jazykové prostředky nacházejí také v české naraci. Práce tedy srovnává jak po obsahové, tak po stylistické rovině množství vybraných pohádek, z čehož vyvozuje závěry o charakteru japonského pohádkového útvaru.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis uses the method of literary comparatistics in order to compare the selected European and Japanese folktales (i.e., the German folktales – the brothers Grimm, the French folktales – Perrault, the Czech folktales – Němcová and Erben, the Japanese folktales in the Czech language – Černá and Novák, and the Japanese folktales in Japanese – Seki). All the stated compilations originate in their local folklore. Firstly, the concept of a folktale is defined in its historical context. Since the term folktale is originally a European concept, it is vital to choose the correct terminology in the Japanese language. Also, the method of literary comparatistics which was used for research in the thesis is analyzed in this part. Other types of scientific analyses of folktales are likewise mentioned. Secondly, the comparison shows examples of the most vivid similarities and differences between the European and the Japanese folktales. As for the content of the folktale, the characters, their communities, the role of the protagonist and his helper, the animals with their functions and the types of supernatural beings are compared. This is followed by a comparison of the environment in the folktale and recurrent numbers are also mentioned. As for the plot, this chapter compares the purposes of the narrative of the folktale. It looks upon the entertainment purposes and the moral hints in the folktale. Last but not least, typical folktale endings are analyzed. The final chapter studies the language spheres of the Japanese and the Czech narrative in the folktale. There are analyzed such aspects as the old speech and the dialect, or the conventional beginning and ending phrases, onomatopoeic words, homonyms, repeated parts of speech and the poetry. All these patterns are typical for the Japanese narrative genre and this thesis attempts to search for similarities in the Czech narrative of the folktale. A certain amount of the folktales mentioned above are analyzed on the basis of the content and the language spheres, which results in the definition of the Japanese folktale.
