The epoxidation of esters and their use in other applications

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá epoxidací methylesterů řepkového a lněného oleje pomocí peroxidu vodíku a kyseliny mravenčí za různých reakčních podmínek (čas a teplota reakce, intenzita míchání, ?). V teoretické části jsou popsány vlastnosti olejů, methylesterů a epoxidovaných methylesterů, a zejména samotná epoxidační reakce. V experimentální části je popsána příprava epoxidovaných methylesterů z původního oleje (transesterifikace a epoxidace) a jednotlivá měření sledovaných vlastností (jodové číslo, epoxidový ekvivalent, kinematická viskozita, hustota,?). Byla provedena analýza vlivu jednotlivých proměnných na výsledné vlastnosti. Na finální vlastnosti epoxidovaných methylesterů má největší vliv teplota a rekční čas. Nezanedbatelný vliv mají molární poměry přidané kyseliny mravenčí a peroxidu vodíku. Jako nevýznamné parametry byly určeny intenzita míchání a použití katalyzátoru. V poslední části je popsáno využití epoxidovaných methylesterů v přípravě latexů, kde došlo ke změně vlastností jako lesk, tvrdost, dynamická viskozita, minimální filmotvorná teplota, ale snížil se výtěžek v důsledku většího vzniku nežádoucího koagulátu.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the epoxidation of methyl esters of rapeseed and linseed oil using hydrogen peroxide and formic acid in various reaction conditions (reaction time and temperature, agitation intensity, etc.). In the theoretical part, properties of vegetable oils, methyl esters and epoxidized methyl esters and mainly the epoxidation reaction is described. In the experimental part, the preparation of epoxidized methyl ester from origin oil and measuring of chosen physical-chemical properties such as iodine value, epoxy equivalent, kinematic viscosity, density, etc. is described. The relation between reaction conditions and properties of formed epoxides was described by statistical analysis. The most important influence on final properties have reaction temperature and time. The molar ratio of formic acid and hydrogen peroxide have also important, but smaller effect. The insignificant parameters are agitation intensity and catalyst usage. In the last part, the formed epoxides were applied for the preparation of latex. Application of oil methyl esters into latex with methyl esters change some properties, but disadvantage is lower yield caused by higher formation of undesirable coagulate.
