Russian Ruble and Chinese Juan in International Monetary System

Abstract:

This thesis analyzes the assumptions under which the currencies Yuan and the Ruble could get a leading position names in the international monetary system. The recent financial crisis has shown that the status of the U.S. Dollar as the world's only reserve currency is not secure and it creates global imbalances. Therefore it is necessary to implement certain procedures to the international monetary system, which effectively ensure greater security and stability. Russia and China are countries that significantly affect the world‘s economy in the last decade, so their currencies are automatically brought to the forefront of the global financial system. This is also related to the amount of their foreign exchange reserves and their rapid economic growth. My work defines the fundamentals of a currency and its character. It deals with the evolution of the international monetary system and the opinions of leading economists on its functioning and the necessity to adopt changes, which promptly reflect to the rapidly changing situation on global markets. Globalization brings both – positive interdependence and interconnection of the national economies, but also a possibility of a faster negative impact on the whole system, as shown by the recent crisis. Ensuring stability and security in the international monetary system requires the creation of a system, in which several important currencies hold the leading position together.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca sa zaoberá analýzou predpokladov, za akých by meny juan a rubeľ mohli získať postavenie vedúcich mien v medzinárodnom menovom systéme vzhľadom na meniacu sa globálnu finančnú architektúru. Nedávne finančné krízy ukázali, že status amerického dolára ako jedinej svetovej rezervnej a vedúcej meny nie je bezpečný, vytvára globálnu nerovnováhu a do systémov medzinárodných finančných trhov a finančných transakcií je nevyhnutné implementovať opatrenia, ktoré efektívnym spôsobom zaručia vyššiu mieru bezpečnosti, stability a možnosti regulácie medzinárodného menového systému. Rusko a Čína sú krajiny, ktoré ovplyvňujú svetovú ekonomiku a ich meny sa dostávajú na popredné miesto v porovnaní s inými menami, čo súvisí aj s výškou ich devízových rezerv a celkovým smerovaním ich ekonomík a ich ekonomickým rastom. V práci sa definuje podstata meny a jej charakter, popisuje sa vývoj medzinárodného menového systému a názory renomovaných ekonómov na jeho fungovanie a nutnosť prijatia zmien, ktoré by odrážali rýchlo sa meniacu situáciu na medzinárodných trhoch. Globalizácia prináša nielen pozitívnu previazanosť a prepojenosť celého sveta a ekonomík jednotlivých štátov, ale aj možnosť negatívneho narušenia ich fungovania, ako ukazujú posledné krízy. Zabezpečenie stability a bezpečnosti v medzinárodnom menovom prostredí si vyžaduje vytvorenie takého medzinárodného menového systému, v ktorom by mali postavenie vedúcich mien viaceré meny.
