Political and constitutional developments in Czechoslovakia in the years 1918 - 1920

Abstract:

Cílem předkládané bakalářské práce je seznámit čtenáře s klíčovými politickými událostmi před vznikem samostatného Československého státu a bezprostředně po něm a analyzovat a interpretovat formování a vývoj ústavního a politického systému v letech 1918-1920. Práce je zpočátku věnována politickým událostem a prvnímu pokusu o ústavní vývoj v letech 1848 a 1867, dále rozebírá události, které se odehrály v průběhu první světové války. Popisuje vývoj mocenských střetů jednotlivých politických aktérů a politických stran a jejich vliv na formování budoucího Československého státu. Další část práce je zaměřena na období bezprostředně následující po vyhlášení samostatného státu, vzniku Recepční normy a posléze přijetí tzv. Prozatímní ústavy. Práce popisuje nelehkou situaci a klíčové události, kterým musela československá politická reprezentace čelit až do doby přijetí definitivní ústavy v roce 1920.

Abstract:

The presented Bachelor’s thesis aims at introducing the pivotal political events before and immediately after the formation of independent Czechoslovakia and at analyzing and interpreting the formation and development of the constitutional and political systems in the years 1918 - 1920. The first part of the thesis focuses on political events and on the first attempts of a constitutional development in the years 1848 and 1867; further on, the thesis analyses the events which happened during World War I. It describes the course of power conflicts among individual political participants and political parties and their influence on the formation of the future Czechoslovak state. The following part of the thesis focuses on the period immediately after the proclamation of the independent state, on the formation of the Reception Act and finally, on the passing of the so-called Interim Constitution. The thesis portrays the difficult situation and key events which the Czechoslovak political contingent had to face until the definitive Constitution was adopted in 1920.
