Spanish Vocatives of Affection and their Equivalence in Czech

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the subject of the use of vocatives in Spanish. The first part is dedicated to the study of vocatives from the perspective of phonology, morphology, syntax, and pragmatics, while it also provides a comparison with Czech and an insight into the topic of the translation of vocatives. Based on the data extracted from a bilingual corpus InterCorp, an analysis of the Spanish vocatives of affection cari?o, amor, corazón, vida, cielo and alma is carried out in the research part - focus is put mainly on investigating their Czech equivalents and any positional changes produced during the translation process, taking into consideration both the basic and the derived forms of the vocatives. The paper provides an overview of the current trends in the translation of vocatives and confirms the hypothesis that translators often diverge from the translations registered in dictionaries. As for the position of the vocative in the sentence, our investigation shows that it rarely changes in the Czech translation, with the central position being the most common in both languages.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou užití vokativů ve španělštině. První část práce je věnována studiu vokativů z hlediska fonologie, morfologie, syntaxe a pragmatiky, poskytuje také srovnání s češtinou a nahlédnutí do problematiky překladu vokativů. Ve výzkumné části je pozornost kladena na vybranou skupinu španělských pozitivních vokativů cari?o, amor, corazón, vida, cielo a alma, u kterých jsou na základě dat extrahovaných z korpusu InterCorp analyzovány jejich české překladové ekvivalenty a jsou zkoumány možné změny pozice vokativu ve větě, přičemž v potaz jsou brány kromě základního tvaru vokativu také tvary diminutivní a tvary doplněné o posesivní adjektiva. Práce poskytuje přehled aktuálních tendencí v překladu vokativů a potvrzuje hypotézu, že překladatelé se od překladů uvedených ve slovnících často odklánějí. Co se týče pozice vokativu ve větě, studie ukázala, že se v českém, přeloženém textu mění zřídka, přičemž nejčastější je v obou jazycích pozice uprostřed věty.
