Mineral fibers in airborne dust from the surroundings of the Brno

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce popisuje mineralogické a texturní vlastnosti prachových částic odebraných na třech odlišných lokalitách v Brně a okolí. První část práce je zaměřena na charakteristiku a rozdělení minerálních vláken na základní skupiny a na výskyt potencionálních zdrojových hornin v okolí Brna. Moje práce popisuje také dominantní směry větru, které mají velký vliv na odnos prachového materiálu. Druhá část, metodická obsahuje mineralogické a morfologické vlastnosti prachových částic, které byly zkoumány pod mikroskopem. V této části práce se nacházejí grafy, tabulky a fotografie reprezentativních jehlicovitých zrn. Na závěr práce se podařilo analyzovat chemické složení amfibolů a porovnat je s potencionálními zdrojovými horninami ze studovaných oblastí, které potvrzují dominantní směry větru ve směru JV a SZ. V žádném vzorku se nenašlo azbestové zrno.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis describes the mineralogical and textural properties of dust particles collected at three different locations in and around Brno. The first part of the work is focused on the characteristics and division of mineral fibers into basic groups and on the occurrence of potential source rocks in the vicinity of Brno. My work also describes the dominant wind directions, which have a great influence on the transport of dust material. The second, methodological part contains the mineralogical and morphological properties of dust particles, which were examined under a microscope. In this part of the work, there are graphs, tables, and photos of representative needle-like grains. At the end of the work, it was possible to analyze the chemical composition of amphiboles and compare them with potential source rocks from the studied areas, which confirm the dominant wind directions in the SE and NW direction. No asbestos grain was found in any sample.
