Conservation of Chinese Wallpaper

Abstract:

Tématem této práce jsou orientální papírové tapety, kterým jsou věnovány všechny tři její části. V první, teoretické, popisuji průběh průzkumu dochovaných tapet v České republice a představuji nalezená díla. Druhá, praktická, část je věnována restaurování čínské papírové tapety ze zámku Valtice. Na začátku stručně shrnuji předchozí zásah a navazuji zprávou o dalších provedených krocích. Závěrečná část je opět teoretická se zaměřením na technologický průzkum vlastností čínských a japonských papírů s ohledem na výběr vhodného materiálu pro doplnění a podlepení restaurované tapety.

Abstract:

The master thesis focuses on oriental wallpapers and it is divided in three parts. The first one, theoretical, describes the progress of the research of oriental wallpaper preserved in the Czech Republic and evaluates the results. Another part, practical, is devoted to the conservation treatment of oriental wallpaper located in Valtice chateau. It contents summarization of the previous treatment and the description of the following progress. The last part is theoretical and deals with the analysis of the characteristics of Japanese and Chinese papers. It summarizes results acquired evaluating the appropriateness of the use of Chinese papers for conservation purposes.
