The issue of Turkey's accession to the European Union

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je zjistit, proč doposud nebylo Turecku umožněno vstoupit do Evropské unie a určit podmínky, které jsou pro vstup esenciální. V první kapitole představuji Turecko a Evropskou unii a jejich vzájemné vztahy. Zaměřuji se zejména na vztahy Turecka s Řeckem, jež jsou dlouhodobě problematické. Ve druhé kapitole analyzuji kodaňská kritéria, která představují objektivní měřítko v hodnocení vstupu Turecka do Evropské unie. V rámci kodaňských kritérií se ve své práci soustředím na ty, které Turecko neplní, tedy kritéria politická a ekonomická. Analýzu doplňuji v poslední kapitole PEST a SWOT analýzou.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to find out why Turkey has not been allowed to join the European Union so far and to identify the conditions that are essential for entry. In the first chapter I introduce Turkey and the European Union and their mutual relations. In particular, I focus on Turkey's relations with Greece, which have long been problematic. In the second chapter, I analyse the Copenhagen criteria, which represent an objective benchmark in assessing Turkey's accession to the European Union. Within the framework of the Copenhagen criteria, I focus my work on those that Turkey does not fulfil, i.e. the political and economic criteria. I complement the analysis of the Copenhagen criteria with a PEST and SWOT analysis in the last chapter.
