Musicals through the Lens of Fandom

Anotace:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá doposud málo prozkoumaným průnikem mezi fanouškovskými studiemi a muzikály. Prostřednictvím analýzy tří muzikálů, The Phantom of the Opera, Hamilton a Hadestown, se práce snaží prozkoumat specifické komunity, které se vytvořily kolem každé z těchto inscenací, a rozmanitými tvůrčími formami, jimiž tyto komunity operují. Práce dále dokládá, že fandom v oblasti muzikálů představuje bohatou, komplexní a inspirativní oblast, která si zaslouží větší pozornost z akademického hlediska.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis examines the underexplored intersection of fan studies and musical theatre. Through the analysis of three case studies, The Phantom of the Opera, Hamilton, and Hadestown, this thesis investigates the distinct communities that formed around each production and the varied creative forms through which those communities operate, engage with their source texts, and ultimately thrive on, arguing that musical theatre fandom constitutes a rich, complex, and generative field that deserves sustained scholarly attention.
