Typology of cohabitation in the Czech Republic: stratification and development over time

Abstract:

Cílem této práce bylo prozkoumat rozložení různých typů kohabitace v České republice a jejich vývoj v čase ve vztahu k prevalenci kohabitace. Dalším cílem bylo prozkoumat stratifikaci jednotlivých typů kohabitace. Analýzou dat z šetření Generations and Gender Survey z let 2005 a 2021 pro Českou republiku jsem zjistila, že v obou sledovaných obdobích dominují typy kohabitace, které slouží jako předstupeň manželství, a to i přes rostoucí prevalenci kohabitací v populaci. Dále se ukázalo, že typy kohabitací jsou stratifikovány podle věku, vzdělání a pohlaví.

Abstract:

This thesis aimed to study the distribution of different cohabitation types in the Czech Republic and their development over time in relation to the prevalence of cohabitation. Furthermore, it also aimed to examine the stratification of each cohabitation type. Analysing data from the Generations and Gender Survey from 2005 and 2021 for Czechia, I found that cohabitation types that serve as marriage forerunners dominate in both observed periods, despite the increasing prevalence of cohabitation in the population. Furthermore, cohabitation types proved to be stratified by age, education, and sex.
