Paliativní medicína je velmi mladý medicínský obor (u nás uznán v r. 2004), který se však rychle rozvíjí. Kromě jiného i vzhledem k demografickému vývoji naší společnosti nabývá problematika paliativní péče na významu a je žádoucí ji brzy a smysluplně zapracovat do stávajícího systému zdravotní péče.
